Hi all - midway through building an empire force - wondered if you might 'fact check' the list, anything inherently wrong here, and any advice to streamline it? I'm aware that mounted forces aren't top tier anyway, try to keep in the theme for any suggestions. Some points - Mage goes in the 5 man unit (or a unit of pistoleers?) Welcome to the Empire! Some incoherent remarks:
- Give your lvl 2 Wizard a horse with barding. Without a horse, he'll slow any unit he joins down - except the Master Engineer. You can put him either with the 5 Knights or the main force. If you put him with the Pistoliers, they will lose the Fast cavalry rule. Drop the Ring of Volans - it is crap. Give him a dispel scroll instead.
- I would give the BRB the Shrieking Sword, instead of the Sword of Might. Fear is not what it used to be, but can still come in handy. Most of our characters have a supporting role: for that, they need to survive. If they kill something, that is just a bonus.
- Give the Captasus the Helm of the Skaven Slayer, Dragon Helm or Enchanted Shield (for a 1+ AS), and a cheap magic weapon (to deal with Ethereals).
- The Master Engineer provides great synergy with a HBVG - cannon not so much. Drop him and use these and other points for a WP or even to upgrade your Wizard to lvl 4.
- I would not give the 5 Knight unit or the DGK a standard bearer. If they break, the standard bearer is automatically slain. In the case of the DGK, you would lose an extra 83 points.

I'm historically a High Elf player...so everything seems very cheap and in efficient at the moment! The lack of steed on the mage was an oversight of course! Interesting points otherwise though, something to mull over for sure

To expand a bit on the Master Engineer: he is basically only taken with the HBVG, because the Master of Ballistics special rule has some major flaws that prevent it to be useful for cannon (and the other war machines are subpar choices). He can only support one war machine, which has to be nominated before any war machine he could support is fired. Hence, you do not know, if his re-roll will be necessary at all. In addition, he cannot re-roll the bounce distance. In the case of the HBVG, the re-roll is more useful (as the HBVG is more prone to misfires), but you use the ME primarily to increase the BS. - Master of Ballistics (Empire AB, p. 35): If a Master Engineer is not fleeing, a single war machine within 3" of him can use his Ballistic Skill and re-roll one artillery dice during the Shooting phase. This cannot be the dice that determines the distance bounced by a Cannonball. You must nominate which war machine, if any, will be using this rule each Shooting phase before any war machines within 3" of the Master Engineer are fired. A Master Engineer cannot use this special rule and shoot with his own missile weapon in the same Shooting phase."
