Pfff the youth of today *grumble* Stupid goblins players *moan* Useless forge apprentices breaking all my good gear *gripe* Hmm, now then, a small update. I've actually painted a fair amount since the last update- I just haven't been updating on them! My ironbreakers, GW Warriors, hammerers etc all grow in size but as rank & file I'll not share an update until I reach a nice meaty unit size. I've also started work on a unit of shield-beards (longbeards with shields) as the standard dwarf warrior with shield doesn't seem to do it justice! First off, a grudge-thrower: Nice & easy and didn't take long but I'm pleased with the outcome- just need to get the crew down now! Next up, a second Lord on shieldbearers - it's the Grombrindal anniversary addition - quite a nice piece, just a pig to glue! Lastly a runelord/smith model I'll use for either as it looks quite generic. It's an over-spray so it doesn't look as detailed as it might, but I think it turned out OK (I stripped as much as I could, but there's always a bit of residual paint left in the crevices!)

Love the blue/gold, such a classic dwarf combo.
how did you find assembling the metal grudge thrower? I have one somewhere disassembled and remember it looking VERY fiddly.

Not too bad... start with the base and work upwards. Be aware that the hand that holds the stone was shown upside-down on the box diagram of my one..

*moan* goblins stole all my good forge-hammers *gripe* the newbies in the barracks aren't tough enough *whinge* the gold coming out of the furnace isn't pure enough Now then, where was I? Oh yes, now some of you will recognise these from a recent thread in the painting section, but I wanted a unit of Shieldbeards (Longbeards with shields for the uninitiated). The old metal longbeard models are awesome, but cost more than a weeks grocery shopping from the supermarket they're that expensive! But my 'standard' shield & handweapon models just don't look 'meaty' enough to represent those long in years and beards, and are also a mixed set of beards, so I wanted to have a unit with purely white beards. The style of these 'new' GW models (that probably came out 10 years ago) is quite different from the other models I've collected throughout the years, so to tie them together with my other units that have a dark-blue & gold theme, but differentiate them from my ironbreakers, which have a similar look & feel, I would tint their armour blue rather than black. Anyway, the effect I think is quite effective - I've a unit of 22 painted models now. They are slightly more time-consuming to complete than some of the other models, but its satisfying to see them ranked-up, ready to clout another unit of orcs around the head!:

I really like how they came out; giving them all the same shield design was a smart choice.
this generation of dwarfs is a notable gap in my collection, I really have to get myself some.
Also they rank up much more easily than I originally thought.

So I've been gradually working on this unit for probably about 6 months & finally have completed a unit if 10. These are Rangers from the Avatars of War collection. They're a pig to both glue together and rank up, but they do look quite good once completed (IMHO)

Always liked those models. I thought they were long OOP? I'm glad to be proved wrong.
You did a great job. The only suggestion I have, for ranking up models lime these, is to multibase. So perhaps put them on 20x40 and 40mm square.

Awesome collection! I also want to get shots of each army at some point if only to get an accurate list of what models I actually have

The throng is going to need mustard all right, if they don't get off the dining room table...
