Q: Can you exit challenge if you win, but still have corner contact with rest of unit?
Example: In a recent game my 3x Pegasus Knights were doing reasonably well against some Flesh Hounds of Khorne, only to be charged by a Bloodthirster. (bad times)
To give the unit a chance to finish off the hounds I declare a challenge with my Champion, who is promptly cut down by the Blood thirster. Sadly they don't quite finish the Flesh-hounds and another one of the Peg Knights gets killed by the hounds (leaving just one, who has front to flesh hounds and a corner touching Blood Thirster, but does hold!).
The debate was is the Blood Thirster still in combat? (I argued that he was and would need to fight another round).
Am I right?
Follow-up: I'd also assume that if the Bloodthirster hadn't been in contact then indeed he would have been out of combat? (but NOT able to overrun?, as he didn't wipe-out the unit?)
Thank you in advance for your thoughts!
FFB PCP
F=Fleshhound B=Bloodthirster P=Peg Knight C = Champion Strikethrough = killed

As described, the bloodthurster would remain locked in the combat with the remaining pegasus knight.

The BT has not charged the champion, but his unit. If the champion is killed, the BT is still in CC with that unit, unless there is no way to make base contact.
This particular case falls under "shrinking units and multiple fights" (BRB p. 61):
"Occasionally, a situation can arise when one or more units are no longer in base contact with the enemy, but at least part of the enemy unit is still alive. This normally occurs when an enemy has been charged in the rear — as casualties come from the rear rank first, this would in theory leave the attackers stranded from their foe. Clearly this is wrong, just as warriors on a real battlefield would push on to continue the fight, and would not stop fighting if the enemy was standing a few paces away, so must warriors on the miniature battlefield.
Whenever a unit becomes stranded in this manner, the attacking unit is immediately nudged (by as small an amount as possible) to bring it back into contact with the foe. This move cannot be used to alter the facing the attacker is in base contact with, nor is it an opportunity to change the attacker's formation or charge a unit not engaged in the fight. If the attacker cannot be moved in this manner, then the defending unit is moved instead."
Only if neither can be nudged into btb (while keeping all other models in btb that were already in btb), the "no more foes" rule would come into play.
