Q: Can you 'maximise' an Overrun Charge into a Character (or do you have to stick with position you clip when moving 'straight forward')
Example: My Green Knight is obliterated by a horde of Bloodletters (in front) and a Skull Cannon (in Flank) Both of whom want to overrun into a nearby Paladin (who has rear to Bloodletters) The Chariot is easy, if it moves straight forward then it clips the back of the paladin (no debate) However the question is can my opponent instead of just clipping the paladin actually 'maximise' so the chariot shifts position - This then allows the Blood letters to overrun into the rear of the paladin (who would otherwise 'bump back' from the chariot)
Ultimately we played it that he could put both units in combat, but I'm still in two minds what the right decision would be.
Follow-up: I do think if this was not a character and instead a unit with multiple ranks then he could indeed maximise.
Thanks in advance for thoughts and advice!

I guess ultimately your question is asking whether an overrun into enemy contact is treated as a "fresh charge", and can therefore maximise(?)

I think you played that right. (also, you must maximize number of models fighting, it's not optional. not that it matters here)
