Hi there everyone,
This came up a while back. I had a unit of chaos knights with a chaos Lord on demonic mount attached to the unit in combat with skeleton warriors in the front. In the next turn I was charged by grave guard in the flank. But it was the flank where my Lord was. Does this mean the grave guard can only attack the Lord? And my Lord was in a challenge, So does that then mean that the grave guard can not even attack? We played it as no they can not, since they are not base to base with an enemy model.
SSSSSSSSSS KKKKKCLGGGG GGGG GGGG GGGG GGGG
S= skeleton warriors G= grave guard K= chaos knights CL= chaos lord
*edit* I don't know why my diagram has the grave guard in the rear like that. They are meant to be in line on the flank with the first. I am doing this off my phone lol

You played it right, as the GG were only in contact with the Lord, they could only attempt to hit him.
And as he was in a challenge he can only be hit by his challenge opponent ☺️

What DiscoQing says. They cannot attack, but will, of course, still add points to the overall combat result (charge, flank, extra ranks, ...).

Thanks for the quick responses!
I am happy I played it right, because I ended up butchering the skeletons to smash combat resolution which started to crumble his GG. I felt kind of bad that he couldn't bring his GG into battle and use KB. But I guess it was a mistake on his end.
Also they were nurgle knights and Lord had glittering scales and Mark of Nurgle. So was a pretty big ask for his GG that fight!
