Does the fact that there are 8th edition versions of the issue change the general consensus of:
1) Best to discuss with your opponent pre-game 2) The view is that the unit should stay immune to panic unless your opponent happens to feel strongly otherwise - in which case probably dice it?

Well, there seem to be only two 8th edition versions, one of which is from a Forgeworld expansion. Furthermore, the Size Matters and the Chaos Dwarfs Contempt special rules basically would only come into play, if allied characters (and in the case of the CD a Hobgoblin Khan) have joined the unit. These (including the Khan) will be rather rare occurrences, while a Damsel in a unit of Knights is a standard set-up.
So, I do not think the other versions change much.
To add: I would not dice it off, though: "If you cannot agree, play ErAaWe!"
