5 points in Warhammer rulebook, 15 points in their armybook.
Is it possible for then to get this magic item for 5 points RAW?
Main rulebook specifies that points in Army book take precedence, which for things like a War Banner (35 vs 25 points) is a positive but Enchanted Shield is unfortunately listed in their Army book at 15 points.
I actually only noticed this recently since using BattleScribe.

My understanding is that yes - you use the points in your army book for common magic items, I don't believe they ever FAQd that

Yes, that still applies to all the AB that never got an 8th edition.

My friends and I use a house rule, and play with the BRB common magic items/points.
Makes the most sense to us that everyone sings from the same hymn sheet.

Euh, I'd say that if one follows the official BRB rules, then everyone sings from the same hymn sheet; if you use a house rule, obviously not - that is a private hymn.

Just because a magic item is common, does not mean it's EQUALLY common among all armies.

Ah I see - all common magic items are equal, but some are more equal than others.
Be that as it may, it still makes a lot more sense for 3 army books (2 of which are considered weak), to use the common magic items that the other 13 use 🤣
Thus our conforming houserule.

DiscoQing : But they can use all common magic items (and a far wider range of army specific magic items). It is just that (BRB p. 500): "If a magic item is listed both here and in your Warhammer Armies book, use the points value printed with the latter — some races have lesser or greater access to certain magic items, which is reflected in their points value." So yes, some are more equal than others.

Yeah - when that was printed there were no 8th ed army books printed. Now there are only 3 that weren't blessed with an 8th ed book...
Hence my common sense house rule 🤣

I'd say that is a rare instance of GW foresight of potential problems...
