Interesting that this hasn't yet been dealt with an FAQ. One would think this would of came up.

Seeing as squigs are optional in a Squig Herd unit...
I'd love to take 10 Night Goblin Squig Herders (0 squigs), and tell everyone they're not Goblins 😂

One the one hand, they are not optional, as the Squig Herd special rule specifically states: "Squig Herds are composed of both Night Goblins and Squigs," and therefore you need at least one Cave Squig in the unit. On the other hand, that would completely remove the point of taking them in the first place. That said, if by chance all the Cave Squigs were killed, the remaining Herders would now count as a Goblin unit, since, as I have pointed out several times, the status of a Goblin unit for the purposes of the Size Matters special rule is subject to change.

Fine, I'll put 10 herders at the front, 1 at the back, and all the squigs in the middle. Can't have those elves killing all the squigs first.

That is up to you, but it seems neither a smart move tactically (unless you are purposely aiming for a "Squigs Go Wild," nor has it any bearing on the issue at hand.

I love that orcs were the first book of the last edition so that GW had the longest time to smooth out wrinkles as they went, and we're still pulling out things that seem to be Snafus with every reread...
Or in direct opposition to my previous post, they had the most opportunities to fix mistakes, so all that remains is perfection and exactitude. 🫠🫠ðŸ«

Presumably they thought that, since fluff has no bearing on the rules, there was no mistake to be fixed...
