I suppose the issue I have with them is not the 2+ armor save, that's always good, but rather their point cost. Is it really worth the points you invest? And if you have to put a Hero or Lord fighter in with them, then it's getting even more expensive just to make it work. Personally, I'd rather have more bodies, but I totally get someone wanting to use them. I just don't know of a situation where I'd tell myself, "Man! I wish I had a unit of Silver Helms right now!" Lol!

So I managed to find someone that wanted to split his box with me instead so I got a small HE army going. I just won a bid on 13 dragon princes and tryng to get phoenix guards. Going to set up a 1500 point HE Armylist with my current units if anyone want to help out a first small game list.

Yeah, they aren't bad, but they are quite expensive for what you're getting. And HE have so many other options that can do that same thing. ER are GREAT at clearing chaff and core, but they can also Vanguard, have Fast Cav movement, and shoot as well. I suppose it just depends on if you want to get them stuck in combat. There are some pretty good chaff options out there that might prove a problem if you don't have much armor. It's the cost that kinds kills it for me. Since HE are already expensive in general, they tend to suffer from low model count. Core infantry is where they can make a lot of that "number loss" up. Silver Helms pretty much destroy that though. Now, I don't want to rain on anyone's list building strategies, because this is ONLY my opinion, and an all Cav HE list is a completely valid one, but for someone who is just getting started with them, I wouldn't recommend Silver Helms. I certainly LOVE and all-mounted Empire list and have run that many, many times with great success! The key for a HE all-mounted list would be combo charging and breaking units before they get to strike back. Completely achievable. For instance, I've run a list that contained 3 Lothern Skycutters. That was incredibly fun! Two had Bolt Throwers and flanked the main Skycutter that had a Sea Helm (with some magic stuff) in it. They basically straffed the board, and then charged in when they had a good lineup (I also had a Tiranoc Chariot and two Lion Chariots that were all racing around and doing some serious Impact Damage. That was a really fun game, even though it wasn't considered an "optimal" list. How many points was the skycutter list if you recall? 6 chariots, that list sounds awesome!

I don't exactly recall all the items I had on my Sea Helm but I'm sure it was probably something like:
Lothern Sea Helm (Skycutter, Bow, Star Lance, Shield of the Merwyrm, Potion of Foolhardiness) = 249 points. Skycutter (Eagle Eye Bolt Thrower) - 120 Skycutter (Eagle Eye Bolt Thrower) - 120 Lion Chariot - 120 Lion Chariot - 120 Tiranoc Chariot - 90
That brings a total of 799. I almost always play 2500 point games so that fits. I just need 625 points of core.
5 Archers - 50 5 Ellyrian Reavers (Musician, Bows) - 105 5 Ellyrian Reavers (Musician, Bows) - 105 5 Ellyrian Reavers (Musician, Bows) - 105 10 Silver Helms (Full Command, Shields) - 260
Now that leaves me with a remaining 1076 points to "flesh out" the rest of my "fast moving" HE army.
Frostheart Phoenix - 240 Flamespyre Phoenix - 225 Great Eagle - 50 Great Eagle - 50 Noble (BSB, Dragon Armor, Longbow, Lance, Shield, Banner of the World Dragon) - 168 Archmage (Lv4, Elven Steed, Book of Hoeth, Talisman of Preservation) - 340
That all brings you to a total of 2497 points of flying circus! HE really have TONS of flying options they can take, making them potentially better than Wood Elves at movement!
If I recall correctly, that was pretty close to it. I remember my game being against a Lizardman army right after the 8th edition Lizardman book was released. It was actually a close game! I think I won, but it wasn't an easy win. I remember having him totally surrounded except for a unit of 3 Ripperdactyl Riders who were targeting my Silver Helms (Just about the only thing they could catch.) That was my Skycutter's first priority targets. I'm pretty sure that I managed to shoot one down before charging into them and killing them off before they could attack back. Then I started strafing. Eventually, I charged into his flank with my Frostheart into the flank of his Bastiladon and then overrunning into his Saurus Warrior block. (I do recall him getting the Predatory Fighter rule wrong in this, his first game with the new book. He was rerolling all failed to hit rolls with them. *I think he was a bit frustrated with my HE ability to do that.*) Lol, anyway, loads of fun!
