Hi all. Posting this as a friendly 1250 points list. I was thinking I might drop the Wailing Banner outright, but I'd love to be able to drop something in front of Chaos Demons, Chaos Warriors(AKA Mortals), Tomb Kings or Vampire Counts that's immune to Fear and Terror. As for the rest, the infantry blocks are a bit small, but I'm sort of compromising on their size at this small points level, and, even if I do drop the Greatswords, the BSB will probably get the Wailing Banner and the unit will probably make way for another infantry block with a Detachment of some kind, possibly an Archer unit for screening or harassment; or possibly another unit of Core missile troops and a squadron of Pistoliers. I'm not really sure yet as I haven't had a game in M-O-N-T-H-S... I came back to edit this to remove the Wizard, and substitute the characters for a WP and Captain BSB. If my math looks wrong, feel free to call me on it, but please point out exactly where, so I can change it - thanks!! Army: The Drawkwald Rangers Race: The Empire (Men) Player: Robert Tedders Points: 1246 pts Character(s): Fr. Gregor Lutz, with Shrieking Hammer, heavy armour, Enchanted shield and the Talisman of Endurance. 112 pts Captain Georg Hoffman, with the +1S sword, full plate', shield, and BSB. 115 pts Character(s) total: 227 pts/18.16 % Core: 10 Crossbowmen (90). 90 pts 20 Halberdiers with shields, standard and musician. 160 pts Detachment: 10 Handgunners. 90 pts 20 Swordsmen with standard and musician. 160 pts Core total: 500 pts/40.00 % Special: 25 Greatswords with musician and standard with the Wailing Banner. 290 pts Mortar. 100 pts 10 Huntsmen. 80 pts Special total: 520 pts/41.60 %

I like the characters. The mortar will not harm anyone with an armour save but can dwindle down tarpit units. I prefer archers to crossbowmen but to each his own

Only concern for me is the lack of mobility. Depending on who you face, it might help to have more maneuverability. Perhaps some more horses are in order? Warriors of Chaos can be slow with infantry blocks. Same with certain TK & VC builds. I like the AP of greatswords, in particular for chaos warriors. Just throwing ideas out there. I don't actually play Empire though

I don't like the handgunners and crossbowmen here. At 9 points each these units are, in my opinion, overpriced considering their low leadership and lack of any kind of armor. I agree that archers are a better choice, fielded in groups of 5 to screen, take buildings, and charge bait stuff. I also like the cannon over mortar. KevinC would agree that cannons can be gross with their ability to auto-kill so many expensive things. A unit of knights would be worth looking into over the shooting troops you've chosen.

Interesting points, and I will certainly consider them; also, will someone PLEASE tell me how to subscribe to/follow threads here on EEFL?! livewaaaaagh and frozenfood: Your points are equally valid; I just can't think of any coherent response at 23:15, and without my army book to hand.....

I think there are certain enemy army styles that this list would stand no chance against. Now if this is an issue depends on if this is an all comers list or a list for a specific game and you know your enemy. I don't see anything in here that can deal with high toughness monsters or hard hitting units such as monstrous cav which are great at chewing through blocks of infantry. Others said it above but I would swap the mortar and 16 points of something else for a cannon.

Bookmark the thread Receive updates .... Profit So by bookmarking, I get email alerts if there are any replies? Or do I have to do something else for that? dannytee Avatar Jan 14, 2017 9:44:38 GMT dannytee said: I think there are certain enemy army styles that this list would stand no chance against. Good advice, I suppose; this is intended to be an 'all-comers' list, without being WAAC about it; I'll have to dig out my army book later and post an updated list. What is the meta like these days, do you know, what with 8th Ed. having been the last edition for many armies, and for the unlucky few, 7th....?

I think it's enough
And the meta depends on you opponents. I never see a death sniper for instance and we do not allow double steamtanks, double phoenixes, etc.

I think the 2 most fun matchups for that list would be TK/VC. As was said Monstrous Cavalry (Skullcrushers especially) will be it's bane.
Warriors of Chaos (some lists) can actually feature very few warriors and instead you will be assaulted by chariots and Skullcrushers along with a Chimera or other nasty. It is imo this type of list which would trouble the poor empire soldiers the most.
If I wanted to be a prick and try and cheese the list (for example, I'm not like that) I'd field something like the above led by a flying daemon prince (daemon prince + a Chimera is 2 super fast, T5, flying thunderstomping beasts which will be very hard to shut down).... that would be lame though.
I'd love to see a picture of your army.
