A quick question, I have a Orc BSB in a goblin unit. That means he is added to the side of the unit since his base is bigger. If the unit is attacked, can he do a make-way and fight?

I'm pretty sure he can so long as he is not otherwise engaged in base to base contact. That's how we have always played it. He is part of the unit afterall.

That is as I see it too. Now if the orc changed into a hydra (wizard hat), he could not make way because he's a monster and not a character, right?

No can't make way. Covered in one of the later FAQ. Essentially you can't make way if you can't fit in. (what are yougoing to do displace a 20mm model to put a 25 mm model 'in' the unit in it's place? However in subsequent rounds you can reform so he can be in base to base.

But in a reform you cannot take anyone out of combat that is in base contact. So that never really helps, does it?

You would keep the models in base to base before the reform still in base to base when you reform to face the opposing unit. The Orc will be at the front corner of your unit at the edge of the unit touching opposing models. This assumes the frontages and depth works (but almost always does)

That could work is my goblins are 5 wide...something to think about because horde armies in horde formation are FUN

You do not have to horde to make it work

We need a (Belgian) beer and a table to continue this conversion. In lack of that, I meant that it is easy for the opponent to ignore your orc if he has enought goblins to attack If I do not horde up, then he has no choice, he must also attack the orc

Yes you are right I was envisioning the goblins being flanked.
