We're doing a 2500 point 1v3 FFA on Saturday, I am with Empire against Bretonia, Ogres and Lizardmen. So if you happen to be planning to do that on Saturday, chances are you're a friend of mine and shouldn't be reading this
Basically, I am going to try to hold the line as far as I can with Inner Circle Knights and a few character models and a small group of demis, while a Hurricanum and Level 4 mage augments them, while giving them hel(blaster). I am thinking of giving my Warrior Priest the VH Speculum so that if I bump into any serious character models like the Paladin I can possibly take them out in a challenge. This item forces me to swap STIA with the challenged model. Warrior Priest has 4 on all STI values and 2A which is actually pretty good in itself. 1.) This only affects unmodified base values, right? Not augmented / hexed through spells or items. 2.) Can somebody tell me if this will do me any good against ogre chars and champs, since their INI is low they will likely strike first. Possibly even killing him (although he has an armor save of 2+ and can re-roll armor saves). As far as I could see, an ogre hero has like ST 5/5 and 4 AT which would be to my benefit, if I survive his first strike. I gave the WP the tormentor blade so that a single wound will weaken the enemy model permanently in case it survives. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Scratch everything I wrote, I have to go home and re-think my WP's life Turns out he can only carry 50 points worth of items. Stupid Battlescribe app!

Update: I had to take the Archlector now as it seems. So my items are: VHS Heavy armor (5+) + Warhorse (w. Barding) -2 armor Dawnstone (re-roll failed armor saves)
Tormentor Sword (causes stupidty for REST OF GAME) So in total a +3 armor save that I can re-roll
Thoughts?

I am not sure the AL is worth it without the War Altar. In your set-up, you should at least add the Enchanted Shield, or shield + Dragonhelm, for a 1+ AS.
On a side note: perhaps there are more suitable sub-fora for such questions (EEFL Army Lists, Get the Rules Right, or Empire Tactics in Tactics & Stratagems spring to mind).

Arch Lector is indeed 35 points more for a measly 2 extra LD I don't need and one wound. But the fact he can stack up to 100 item points is the reason I went for him.
On the side-note, sorry, I'm new

Btw I replaced the silly Tormentor Sword with Warrior Bane. One permanent AT down for each unsaved wound is incredible against heroes, and as I said, my Warrior Priest // Archlector is intended as a challenger, so this is a great, cheap weapon to go for. As regards your other suggestions: First of all, I have this huge problem that I have pinpoint hit my 625 limit for Lords... Enchanted Shield: Can't take it, since I still have him on a horse, to get some kind of extra save. So I took the dragonhelm but I had to scratch the barding. I would like this guy to be on foot with halberdiers, but the problem is that with the horse I lose another -1 armor save... I think this is the best selection for a Challenger on foot Archlector 100 pts On foot leading the 15 halberdiers support group (giving them a proper leader, too, making use of his LD) Meteoric Iron Armour (+1 Armour save, +6 Ward Save) Warrior Bane (-1 AT for each unsaved wound) Van Horstman speculum And scrap the Dawnstone This guy should hardly get wounded in ordinary combat, has 3W himself and even if he doesn't destroy the opponent, he will certainly substantially weaken it I could change my mind at any point, put him back on a horse but then my Wizard will have to go on foot
