So forgive me if this is in the wrong place, if so please correct me ^^.
Been buying bits and various batches of Empire minis for past few months for the idea of doing a large Hochland army, and was curious how big or how many of X, Y and Z units, ignoring points.
So what are peoples thoughts? Does anyone know of any bits of media that covers this?
Cheers folks

Depends on budget & your playstyle! I'd recommend:
A unit of core melee troops- usually halberdiers A couple of units of knights At least one hellblaster At least one Stank Some characters/leaders eg captains, warrior priests / wizards / engineers Some demigryphs
If its specifically a hochland army, although they're a sub-par choice, some handgunners for the fluff

in terms of unit sizes, roughly 30-40 for infantry, 5-15 for knights.
probably the best way to get a rough idea is look through the Empire army lists in the EEFL Army list section.

Start out with a few core units, one special, and one rare. Something like: - Halberdiers
- Knights
- Handgunners
- Demigryphs
- Hellbaster
Play a few small games. Then add units one by one based on whatever you feel you are missing.

@gingergutz: Is your main focus an effective or a effluftive army?

Cheers for replies so far, got to agree on all points but this is less for in game use, more of the equivalent of what you reckon would fill a company/grand army (like 1000 space marines to a chapter).
Closest I found so far was an artillery company sits at 10-15 cannons with some spicey hellblasters and the hellstorm rockets from the book "Iorn company". So was thinking what would for regular companies or patrols.
Hope this makes more sense but thanks again

Ah. From a fluff perspective I don't think a standard/typical Warhammer fantasy army has ever been defined for any faction.

1 unit of handgunners with champion and longrifle, 3 engineers with longrifles, some lord character to buy the Folding Fortress (General with a Handgun?) and then fill out the rest.

if you look for some kind of grand organizational chart for an Empire army, I don't think it exists. I guess you could research what armies the HRE fielded, especially in terms of proportions of inf to cav to art and of pikemen to handgunners. Should give you an idea.

Hello fellow Hochland General! In terms of fluff, you could read "Call to Arms" from Mitchel Scanlon. It is about a Hochland Swordsmen Company and a good read imo. There is also "Iron Company" from the same series, following a veteran atillerie Crewmen (did not yet read this one).
Overall Hochland is not the richest province, so you could take that into consideration.

You should check out "Uniforms & Heraldry of the Empire". It has a section for each state in the Empire and also one page spreads for several notable units. But no overall army composition or example troop counts that I saw.
