Empire AB p.43
Is this meant as the Grand Master joining the Demigryph Knights with a different base shape? So e.g. 50mm // 50mm // 50mm // 25mm on a Warhorse next to 3x Demigryphs?
Because I can't find an option to give him a Demigryph as a mount. Feels like that should certainly be possible, though.

Yes. Unfortunately, he cannot take a DG.

Great. "Master of Battle" but he can't do what an Inner Circle Knight can. gg, GW

Perhaps GW thought it would be unbalancing to put him on a Combat Chicken.

Master of Battle is not a master of chickens. Perhaps he had a bad experience with a mean rooster?

Wider saddle - bad for the hips.

Perhaps GW thought it would be unbalancing to put him on a Combat Chicken. Surely the Cockatrice is the real Combat Chicken. But on topic, the option to put him on a demigryph is missing only because citadel didn't make the appropriate model. No model, no army book entry.

Uh... okay that actually makes sense. But based on that logic, I can pretty much fix that with the following
Demigryph Inner Circle Knight + Grand Master + House Rules = Proxed Grand Master on Demigryph + Knightly Order Inner Circle Knight

Hmm actually, let's explore this, from a purely mathematical and scientific perspective. D+ICK = 58 GM+H = 155 H+ICK = = 25 Now how to figure out the value of D+GM? Simple: Since D+ICK is 58 and H+ICK is 25, that means D = H + 33 Therefore, a Grand Master on Demigryph instead of Warhorse costs 188 points

You can do just about anything in WFB with the permission of your opponent. I'd allow at least a test-play of it at 188 points to see if it's at least semi-balanced.

When compared to the Pegasus (45 points), 33 points seems too little.
Pegasus: M8 WS3 BS0 S4 T4 W3 I4 A2 Ld6 Special rule: Fly Demigryph: M8 WS4 BS0 S5 T4 W3 I4 A3 Ld7 Special rule: Armour Piercing, Fear

Getting behind enemy lines like that?

Well, the Arabyan Carpet (granting the Fly special rule) costs 50 points - and clearly overcosted, since it is hardly ever taken. But let us take it at its face value.
On the other side (again taken at face value) we have something like:
- Shrieking Blade (Fear): 10 points - Biting Blade (AP): 10 points - Sword of Might (+1 S): 20 points. - No immediate equivalent I could find, but +1 WS should also be 10 points. - The Ld of mounts hardly ever comes into play, so we can ignore that.
That still means the multiple boni of a Demigryph should match the Fly special rule of the Pegasus.

Alternatively (and perhaps more appropriately) , one could point out that a GM on DG, compared with a GM on a barded WH (24 points), gains the equivalent of
- The Sword of Strife (+2 A): 40 points - The Ogre Blade (+2 S) : 40 points. However, it is only for the A of the mount - hence, 20 points. - The Biting Blade (AP): 10 points, but again only for the mount - hence 5 points. - The Shrieking Blade (Fear): 10 points
I'd say a (barded) DG mount for the GM really should be in the range of 45 -55 points.
