I while back on Lustria Online I ran a math-hammer analysis of The BEST close combat units in all of Warhammer. A good deal of comparative insights were uncovered, of which pertinent to this thread topic was the superior performance of the Chaos Trolls and the relative poor performance of the Nurgle Chaos Warriors with halberds. This spawned the question of which of the WoC core choices formed the best combat block? My theory is that the Chaos Trolls will massively outperform their armoured Chaos Warrior counterparts (assuming of course you can babysit them and keep them away from flaming attacks). So I've set about to answer three main questions: - Are Chaos Trolls better than Chaos Warriors?
- Which of the Chaos Warriors builds (Tzeentch, Khorne, Nurgle) is the best?
- Just how good are the Chaos core choices against a wide assortment of enemy units?
The competitors are: - Chaos Warriors - Mark of Tzeentch, Hand Weapon and Shield
- Chaos Warriors - Mark of Khorne, Additional Hand Weapon
- Chaos Warriors - Mark of Nurgle, Halberds
- Chaos Trolls (who are core via Throgg's special rule; though Throgg plays no additional role in the analysis)
As I've already written up an intro in opening post of the analysis thread over on Lustria Online, I'll keep it short here. For those of you interested, the thread can be found here: Warriors of Chaos Core Deep Dive - Tzeentch CW vs. Nurgle CW vs. Khorne CW vs. Chaos TrollsAt the writing of this post, we're currently in round 8 of the competition/analysis. The first post lists all the important information regarding the analysis as well as a hyper-linked index to all the individual matchups. I thought such information might be of interest to some of you perusing these WoC threads. In the meantime, feel free to use this thread to add your thoughts and insights on the subject at hand.

It's interesting the Savage Orcs do so much better vs the Chaos Trolls.
Thanks for the link.

It's interesting the Savage Orcs do so much better vs the Chaos Trolls. Thanks for the link. It's definitely an outlier for them. The Savage Orcs just seem to have the perfect blend of ranks, standard, body count, attacks, ward save, etc... while still being able to strike before the Trolls. Of course, if the Trolls were to ever beat them in any one round, the Savage Orcs would lose their Frenzy and the tides could turn. Also, if we increased the points size of the units, the Trolls would like overtake them, as they Savage Orcs start the contest with their attacks perfectly maxed out while the trolls do not. A horde of Trolls against a similarly pointed Savage Orc unit might go very differently. Interesting match though. The Savage Orc Big'uns are no slouches.
