I have another one that I wanted to ask you guys.
When a unit is below 25% but there is a character in the unit do you guys still test to rally on a double 1? The reason I ask is because 9th age allows for normal LD tests if there is a character in the unit. Seems a shame to lose a character like that because the unit he was in got butchered, broke from combat and managed to get away. 8th to my knowledge has no such caveat, so I was wondering how you guys do it? I don't think 8th specifies what happens here which is why I wanted to ask.
I'm of the opinion that 9th age handles this right, although I think if you were playing "pure 8th" the unit would only rally on a double 1, and the character's presence would amount to nothing.
Also, when you have multiple characters in a unit and the entire unit gets butchered in combat so that only the characters are left do they remain a unit of characters? Or do they become a bunch of solo characters fighting together?
I want to say yes they become a unit of characters, as the only way to leave a unit is by charging out of it or by leaving it in the remaining moves phase.
Situations that all came up recently and I'm just curious how you would handle this. I don't think the 8th rulebook clarifies what happens here. Kudos if you could point it out if it does.
Thanks,
Ryan
EDIT: In case anyone was wondering the situation was: I destroyed a unit that had two characters in the front rank but the characters were not base to base. The question then became do they get bumped so they're in base to base and continue to fight on as a single unit? Or do they remain exactly where they are and become two separate units of a single character each? Do they take separate break tests? Or just the one? Important because one of them had the crown of command to boot. We diced it off and continued playing, counting them as a single unit.
