Kholek Suneater migration vs Lokhir Fellheart raiding party. Well, got a chance to play my Dragon Ogres including the newly November painting challenge completed Darganoth the Twin Blad Shaggoth vs a core infantry based dark elf force in a friendly battle using my miniatures. I even managed to snap some pictures. The points total is the sum of my Dragon Ogre force so that's why we went that size. I was excited to be able to bring in my new two hand weapon wielding Shaggoth. Note: Big Nuff the Deathcheater has been a friend and ally to the Dragon Ogres since I picked up my first Dragon Ogre miniature so that's why he features. The first ever time I put a Dragon Ogre on the battlefield Big Nuff was there and so it was today. The Big Nuff 500 point pick comprises Bigg Nuff and the unit of 4 Dragon Ogres with great weapons. This pick was created years ago using 7th Edition army books but has featured in enough battles that we still use its original rules/points. The Shaggoth with the Ward save gets it on account of having the snazziest paint job. Dragon Ogres army list is attached. The Dark Elves list is a fully legal (albeit surely non-competitive) 8th Edition list. The sheer contrast between the Druchi numbers against the rare Dragon Ogres was what we were going for. I'll post a breakdown of the Dark Elves list next post

I take back what I said about the Dark Elves army being a fully legal 8th Edition List.
It includes the Dark Avatar of Khaine (the only reason Lokhir tolerates the death hag is that she seems to be able to control to death dealing machine....that and the Executioners listened to her ).
The rules for the Dark Avatar I believe I have posted on this forum but it's a Chillhammer 250 point rare choice for the Dark elves. It's a stubborn Daemon Prince on foot statline with a 4+ Ward Save. The Dark Avatar would prove to be a nuisance that's for sure.
Anyway
Dark Elves list
Lokhir Fellheart Death Hag (stock, 85 points)
25 Bleakswords full command 25 Spear Elves full command 30 Corsairs with hand bows full command 40 Corsairs with extra hand weapons full command Cold One Chariot 10 Executioners full command 10 Executioners full command Dark Avatar of Khaine

The Dark Elves advance. Kholek Suneater calls down lightning on the Dark Avatar causing 2 wounds. Lokhir Fellheart and his horde of corsairs charge Shmigar the Gleaming (Shaggoth with Great Weapon, 3+ Armor Save, 6+ Ward save) and miraculously bounce. Shmigar holds after killing a couple of Corsairs.

The Chariot charges the Shartak while the Executioners charge the 'Red Dragon' Ogre (Fan of Hannibal Lector and the the name stuck-Shaggoth with Great Weapon) The Cold One Chariot kills the Shartak with nary a scratch and overuns. Meanwhile the bloody battle between The Red Dragon and the Executioners has proven inconclusive with the mighty Shaggoth being cut down to half health while reaping a toll of 6 of the Khainites. This battle would be decided with death, nobody would be running here.

Retribution from the Dragon Ogres was swift with Big Nuff's Great Weapon crew flank charging and killing the Cold One Chariot before turning to face the now significantly paler spearmen. Meanwhile Big Nuff himself, Graegon and Shmigar' crew all charge into Lokhir's Corsair horde to support the gleaming one against the druchi pirates. Darganoth meanwhile hangs back, his professional jealousy of Shmigar the Gleaming getting the better of him and proventing him from charging with his fellows. Being the newest member of Kholek Suneater's tribe Darganoth has seen the esteem in which Shmigar is held and wouldn't mind seeing the haughty Shaggoth get cut down a peg. No, Darganoth thought... he would not play second fiddle to Shmigar in this battle and would carve out his own brutal path....he could sense Kholek's ancient eyes surveying the scenes unfolding before him.

Combat is brutal for the corsairs, between the attacks and thunderstomps over half of their number are smashed to bloody smears on the ground. Even worse, in a pure humiliation Lokhir Fellheart himself was felled by two solid blows from Big Nuff's prized rock as they engaged in mortal combat. His feeble elven body succumbing and expiring while his trinkets attempted to vainly regenerate his no longer beating heart. So engrossed had Big Nuff been with creating a pretty red pattern on his rock using the oddly helmed Druchii's bodyparts as ink that he barely noticed the deep gashes through his flesh the Corsair Captain had left him with. With their leader dead, the faltering nerve of the surviving corsairs evaporated and they attempted to flee....but none escaped the wrath of Shmigar the Gleaming and his personal guard as they mercilessly hunted down every last Corsair. Shmigar smiled a cruel smile to himself as he caught the bitter resentment obvious in Darganoth's eyes through his periferal vision. The new tribal recruit had yet to taste combat and Shmigar estimated that the battle would soon be won. The coward, Shmigar thought, what puny Dragon Ogre would forgo the use of a mighty great axe in favour of two smaller, lesser blades.......lesser, just like Darganoth himself, Shmigar thought. While Big Nuff and Graegon had helped him with the Corsair horde, it had been mighty Shmigar that had taken their initial charge and was the reason for their resounding victory he told himself. As he drew himself up to his full height Shmigar thoroughly appraised and admired his flawless, gleaming scaly skin. The puny elves hadn't even managed to dent a single scale.....pathetic. Sparing a dismissive glance at the half dead Big Nuff, Shmigar roared to the sky in open challenge, blades of grass trembling at his might and fury.

Totally epic! Loved the write-up too! Very entertaining!
I kinda thought that the DEs had a steep slope to climb at the beginning, but I thought that the Avatar would've had more of an impact. Huh.

Totally epic! Loved the write-up too! Very entertaining! I kinda thought that the DEs had a steep slope to climb at the beginning, but I thought that the Avatar would've had more of an impact. Huh. Thanks for the feedback...😀 It's not over yet though....just takes me a while to write on my phone and I post when the inspiration takes me. This time I have enough pictures to hopefully tell a decent enough story of the battle. As of the events described above the wounded Dark Avatar actually failed its charge to support the Lokhir's Corsairs leaving the remaining unit of Executioners to face Graegon on their own as they made their charge. The rest of the battle report still to come... the Dark Avatar has yet to make its combat presence known. Kholek should have zapped the Dark Avatar to death on his second attempt but must have mis-keyed the instructions on his lightning summon GPS and ended up just electrocuting himself 🙄 . Still, that brought his attacks up to 8. Like you I thought the battle was over at this point but we decided to play it out..... the Khainites were still doing ok excluding the one sacrificial unit of Executioners. As my opponent isn't a huge Warhammer fan or frequent player I certainly opted to let up the pressure as things had been very lopsided the Dragon Ogres way........ Kholek had slowly been moving into position, but after Lokhir and his unit went down I determined that Kholek wouldn't directly engage in combat and would instead fulfill more of a 'final boss' role and instead watch his minions take care of business whilst occasionally bringing down a Thunderbolt.

The Death Hag did nothing but sneer as she saw her supposed 'general' go down to the brutish Ogre or Giant looking thing. She wasn't quite sure what it was and she didn't care, she had nothing but hate in her heart. Lokhir Fellheart had been a weak willed fool and she had no further use for him......his force was hers now. Murder had come for the Dragon Ogres and she was here to deliver it personally! Khaine demanded death and she would deliver it for him, her first target would be the brutish oaf that had brought down Lokhir. Big Nuff barely had time to blink before she was on him. Her blinding speed was similar to that of the Tentacle helmed elf he had just slain but her style was different...and her cuts hurt more.... somehow? Big Nuff didn't understand, she had only sliced him lightly and yet he felt like he had been stabbed hundreds of times. He felt slow and lethargic as he tried to once more raise his prized rock above his head. His head spinning and eyes blurry, Big Nuff toppled forwards as he tried to bring his rock down upon the Druchii murderess. She didn't bother looking down at him, she already knew Khainite poison had claimed another victim. (side note, The Death Hag lost a wound earlier as a result of Kholek's lightning strike, Kholek did 3 wounds but I was happy that the solo Death Hag should have a complimentary 6+ ward save, opponent rolled two 6's from 3 dice....Khaine was clearly watching) (Death Hag did the remaining 2 wounds to Big Nuff without taking any damage. Big Nuff has an Ogre Bruiser statline so 4 wounds total, Lokhir took his first 2 and the Death Hag took his final 2)

Oh, I see. I assumed that Lokhir and his Corsairs were pretty much the "last stand". I assumed wrong! Looking forward to reading the rest!

While all the chaos is going on the opportunistic handbow armed corsairs snipe the near death Red Dragon Ogre. Darganoth charges the Dark Avatar while Big Nuff's unit of 4 Dragon Ogres with great weapons charge the spearmen. Moving quicker and more skillfully than the lumbering Shaggoth, the Dark Avatar cleaves hunks of flesh from the Dragon Ogre. Panicking, Darganoth fumbles with his grips, unable to unleash his pattented 'Shaggnado' of attacks. The one clean blow he landed was seemingly turned away at the last moment by supernatural forces. For a fleeting moment Darganoth considered running but the thought of Shmigar's gloating condescension put an end to that.

Darganoth did not get another chance to flee. As he refocused his mental energies to his current opponent he heard a high pitched whistle in the air. He gasped in shock and looked down to see the massive blade of the Dark Avatar embedded in his chest. The blade had travelled so fast he hadn't even noticed until it had found his heart. As he slumped to the ground, Darganoth gazed pitifully at his large opponent. What manner of fiend was this? This supremely skilled assailant that had not only shrugged off a Kholek Suneater lightning bolt but done him in so swiftly and easily? As Darganoth's lifeblood oozed away his depleted brain struggled to form thoughts. Darganoth hazily pondered that at least it had taken this giant supernatural monster to bring him down. It hadn't been elven at least, his pride told him.The Druchii must have spent at least 2 kingdom's worth of treasure to bribe this mystical monstrous ally to join them, just to defeat him. He hated the pathetic, puny elves and everything to do with them. Even in his final moments, Darganoth felt a pang of shame that hurt as much as the blade embedded in his chest........he hadn't even landed a telling blow on the beast......he had been completely ineffective. Mustering all his will, Darganoth managed one last defiant look at his conqueror. It was then that he noticed the sharp, distinctive features on the Dark Avatar's face and an unmistakably familiar look of contempt laced with superiority........ so his conqueror had been Elven after all......... (side note) Due to the earlier killing of Lokhir's corsair crew I decided to be a good sport and not charge Graegon and/or Shmigar's Dragon Ogres in to help Darganoth...... I was also curious to see how Darganoth would do solo vs the Dark Avatar. Darganoth had full health and it was his debut so I decided to give him his solo moment in the sun......Darganoth fought with his full health 6 wounds vs the half health, 2 wound remaining Dark Avatar....and got smashed!! To be fair my opponent did make two 4+ ward saves to keep the Dark Avatar alive in the first round of combat but the combination of hitting and wounding on 3's, striking before the Shaggoth and allowing the Shaggoth no armor saves (Strength 6 vs 4+ armor save) makes it a nightmare matchup for a solo Shaggoth whose high WS6 doesn't help and natural high strength is negated by the Dark Avatar 4+ Ward save. So... Darganoth debut.... Flawless victory for the Dark Avatar. Darganoth.... absolutely useless 😀
