Yesterday I played my first game ever of Triumph & Treachery with TheREALricksalamone and dannytee
It was a blast. I played Warriors of Chaos, Rich played The Empire, and Dan played Dwarf. Here are some quick thoughts:
1). --My list was yuck for the T&T mechanics. Fine for me, but overly good for my opponents to exploit. Having 4 units of “chaff” hounds worked to the benefit of my opponents since it was so easy to kill hounds, beat them in combat, and then get point + 50, + 50 for the phase. It really does add up! Especially when they can get a unit wiped in each phase.
2). --My “Best” unit of 10 Chaos Knights ran against the worst possible Buzz Saw they could… an Imperial Grandmaster with a RuneFang. If he hits, you die. Ick. T4 doesn’t matter. 1+ armor doesn’t matter. Well played, crafty human.
3). --My Lord of Chaos did good work. Even though he chose combats poorly and was about to get stuck in an infinitely long drawn out combat with a unit of Hammerers… well, he decided to roll: 6, 6 (a 12) for Eye of the Gods. He turned into a Demon Prince!
Play By Play -
Quick Version: My Demon Prince grabbed the objective (worth 500 VPs) and I had a couple good turns. His key unit of Hammerers broke my small unit of WoC and ran them down. Over a turn or two… all of my small chaff units got wiped. Then my Elite Knights got beaten to pulp by a RuneFang. They got run down eventually.
Then a unit of Irondrakes took 2 turns of shooting practice at my big ol’ Demon Prince. The dude was just sitting in the middle of the table. First, he was fine. Then a wound. Then another. Then I realized he was only saving on 6+ armor and 5+ ward and if the Dwarves rolled one good round, I could be toast. Only 2 wounds left!
So I charged him in to a combat, Swordsmen. I wanted to use “Soul Drinker” to try and get back a wound or two. The Swordies fled. I redirected to a unit of archers. They fled. You can only redirect once. Grrr. I ran the Archers down, killed them to a man, but… that left me unengaged and in the cross-hairs of the dwarfs. Ooops. Rather predictably, that was the turn the stunties had their best ever shooting! They did 3 wounds and I missed my saves. Death. I dropped the 500 VP objective and with it, my chances to grab a victory. The Empire and the Dwarves kept fighting. I had to IRL go home so I don’t know who won.
