First off, I'm new to this forum and this game, so if this is in the wrong place, has been answered already, etc, sorry.
I guess I'm not 100% on Chariots (or regular cavalry, I suppose). The rulebook says "The Wounds, Toughness and armour saves of the crew and the beasts are never used - hits are resolved against the chariot's Wounds, Toughness and Armour Save". If that's true, why does some of the crew have those stats? For Grom the Paunch, his chariot has a Toughness and Wound rating, his Wolves and Niblet don't, but he does. Why would he need that if those numbers are never used? In addition, Grom has Regeneration, which also doesn't make sense if the stats of the crew and beasts are never used. Similarly, the rulebook says about cavalry "The mount's Wounds and Toughness are never used." If so, then why have those stats for the mounts at all?

Grom has full stats because Characters treat Chariots the same as Ridden Monsters(pg. 105, small rulebook). He can be shot off the Chariot or have it shot out from under him.

1. Basic rules always apply, unless specified otherwise. There always may be some effects of special rules, spells etc. that require the use of stats that are not normally used. 2. As midnightfox0083 said, there is a difference between a chariot (with crew) as such, and chariots as mounts for (special) characters. If a character is using a chariot as mount, the chariot can be destroyed, while the character lives on, and vice versa.

Just to add that in close combat the opponent can choose to target either Grom or his chariot (ala Settra the Imperishable) which is why his individual stats/saves are important for him.

And also I do recall some Grom rule clarification somewhere here at the forum.

Do you mean FAQ regarding Grom & Niblet ? To add to grandmasterwang: while an enemy can choose to attack either the character or the chariot in CC, hits from BS shooting are randomised between them, while templates will hit both. In each case, to Wound and save rolls are made separately for character and chariot.
