It was just a reboxing - they've got "Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game" on the box instead now. For the infantry, they increase the quantity in a box, but I think the eagles were left unchanged.

I think this is a great release. I like this game and the miniatures. However, it's disappointing that GW seems to be reviving every game they ever made except WFB. I know, right? Blood Bowl. Necromunda. If they bring back Gork'A'Mork'A and don't touch WFB... Sad Panda. Or, what if they brought back WarMaster? Remember that one?

When the game first dropped I did get the boxset but my friends and I only played a few games. Not familiar with the rules. youtu.be/frAnvQ0X0kANot many games up on youtube yet. I may look into picking up a rulebook and using stand-ins. Might be able to wrangle some locals too. I’ve always thought they should have really have done more effort to promote a small scale Mordheimesque or other skirmish system as a stepping stone to a full blown battles as an entry to WFB.

Isn't the plastic Fellbeast new? It's the same one that's been around for several years now. They might just have repainted it for the photos.

I had some great shots of the LoTR tables at NOVA Open and was just blown away by how great the terrain looks. If you are interested rochester people they are up in the Miniature Games at Millennium group and on Twitter @khornelord in my feed.
I think this game looks a lot of fun! Will there is a guy in Syracuse who is organizing a network of players if you are interested.

I debated it greatly, but spent my $100 on Nurgle demons instead. Give me 2 paychecks to recoup and I might dive in to LotR.
But... the round bases?

I’m looking into picking up the rulebook and army book and just use warhammer models for stand-ins.

I was introduced to this game by a group of guys that used the rules for this system with historical miniatures. It's a fantastic ruleset that lends itself well to just about any fantasy/non-gun equipped miniature system you may have.
I've already purchased my rulebook and am waiting til next month to buy the army book so that I can break out my ACTUAL Middle Earth models so I can play this game!

Just picked up the Fellowship - plan to get the Rulebook and Army book when my local shop gets’em in. I’m unsure how popular it will be but I am in agreement that the ruleset is slick and can make for some fun quick games. I love 8th don’t get me wrong - but there is a time commitment !!

Really a very highly regarded rules set that has been ported into other settings. I know there was a Wild West mod using the original rules set that people raved about.

I've got a small LoTR/Hobbit force (entirely unpainted) and managed a grand total of one game with it a few years ago. It seemed like a fun, characterful game, though from what I've heard it doesn't scale well - if you've got too many models you just get two lines bouncing off each other and limited manoeuvring. That said, it's good at small levels and I'd play it again if I had some opponents to play against.

The current issue of White Dwarf is all A-GA-GA (amped up, excited, promoting, etc) RE: the LotR/Hobbit, i.e. Middle Earth Strategy Game. The articles are fun to read, but --- I don't see myself getting into that game at this time. Maybe in the future.
