WHOA, it isn't 8th edition, but me likey a lot. www.warhammer-community.com/2018/08/19/19th-aug-pre-order-preview/The Battle of Pelennor Fields boxed set is just that, loaded with 84 plastic miniatures, including the brand-new Théoden, King of Rohan, and the mighty Witch-king on his Fell Beast to oppose him. I don't see a price yet... $100? $140? This really just might get me to put a fantasy miniature on a round base. I dunno. Thoughts??

Is it GW or FW?

It's a cool set. I'm still optimistic that a similar box set in the Warhammer world will come out in the future.

Should be GW - all the plastic releases are, even when done by the Specialist Games team at FW.

For anyone that collects LoTR/the Hobbit, there's good news - they've reboxed a lot of the plastic kits and made them available to 3rd party sellers, so you can now get them at a discount from GW prices again. Most of the infantry kits have been doubled in size and not quite doubled in price, so it's cheaper to build an army.

It's a cool set. I'm still optimistic that a similar box set in the Warhammer world will come out in the future. There should be a little push from Warhammer fans for that to happen, a bit like what 40k sisters of battle did .

There is one for half the price though same models. That one is with extra dice, rulers, books. But the conversion in SEK its more like 230 for big and 115 for small.

My GW site keeps messing with currency; I'd pay $115 all day

What’s the drive for GW doing this? I had thought interest in the IP was waning?

Real Answer: Unknown.
Funny Answer: They're going to release 3 more full length feature films over the next 3 years. The films will cover the last 2 dropped/forgotten chapters of the LoTR featuring "Sharkey", plus all the appendix material whereby Samwise becomes Mayor of the Shire for like 50 more years. With new movies comes new miniatures. This is the Gateway Drug.

Anyone’s local shop got any buzz with this? My one shop town hub is mostly bloodbowl / 40k saturated, not much of a LOTR base to work with.

What’s the drive for GW doing this? I had thought interest in the IP was waning? No clue. I'm shocked this is was released. It's like GW signed their soul away with the original lotr deal. They are locked into releasing this stuff for.the next 50 years.

I think this is a great release. I like this game and the miniatures. However, it's disappointing that GW seems to be reviving every game they ever made except WFB.

i did note that there are a load of pre-orders for Lotr stuff on the site. It includes the great eagles. I can’t remember if they had previously been removed or not.
