Hi
It looks like I'm up to play a new person and first time face vampires. My opponent is more of a casual player and first time 8ed game as he regular plays 6ed (you might have heard him in the old world live podcast.) it will also be my first time playing at the club next to my office. I need some games played to be accepted and I play weekdays and they play weekends...
So I am building my witches so I want to field them. He runs all his models so think that includes a vampire or two, skeleton Lord, some ghouls, skeletons, terroghiest, corpse cart, grave guards, hounds.
This is a MSU list I feel like testing and found something very similar in a post. Is it too good?

I want it to be a fun game so open to any changes except my witches. and yes I am talking about making it less competitive not better 🤪, if needed.

Are you playing Krell? (I think that’s what they nicknamed him)
I think your list is fine. It has a bit of everything but isn’t over the top.
Using the witches in two smaller units with no hag and cauldron makes it different enough from the ‘standard’ DE lists.
Edit: The obvious way to make it less competitive would be to replace the warlocks with something else. Perhaps with darkshards and as vamps tend to have no shooting it would still give you an edge.

Agreed with Knoffles' comments - your list isn't too strong, so should be fine for a friendly game.

Playing MSU means you aren’t really allowed to make too much mistakes. In that perspective, your lists isn’t to hard to face. Then again, playing this list correctly could wreck most opponents. What lore for the lvl 4? I might have missed that, but back in the days on ulthuan Heavens was concidered one of the better MSU lores

You have a lot of fast, mounted units in this list. Maybe you could swap out the Warlocks (and the Banner of Eternal Flame for the Gleaming Pennant) for a War Hydra with Fiery Breath? That'd give you a monster to play with and something different for your opponent to face. Otherwise, he might get a little overwhelmed with all the fast elements.

But that's because its a lore I am more familiar with. I guess Heavens is even better in HE then DE as we already have rerolls on 1s to wound but it does look interesting with the comet as area denial (to make surre the opponent will be where multi-charges will occur) and some good bolts.

I agree with Mottdon - someone's first game should be fun, but easier. Meaning combat blocks and regiments. Dancing around him could mean he doens't have fun and doesn't pick up the game as a result.

Well, he has played a fair amount of the 6ed and huge amount of 40k but it's his first 8ed game.
We were supposed to play yesterday but it got postponed to Tuesday.

My first game was with a IoB High Elves list pushed to reach points against an experienced WoC player. I got, ofcourse, smashed, but that got me motivated enough to go on a 15+ winning streak in my following games. Getting smashed can be motivation as well 😉

I am open to any changes but it has to include witches of some kind. Important that it is an even match as possible on paper.

I think you need to drop two of your Bolt Throwers. He has no shooting, so you'll annihilate him before he has a chance to do anything with that much firepower gunning for him. Your Witch Elves will obliterate his Crypt Ghouls, so I'd avoid that match-up if all possible, but the Grave Guard will be a good match for them. The only thing he has to counter your fast cav are the Dire Wolves, and that's not much of a match. I might drop one or two of those units and include some standard, sword-n-board troops as well. Something that he won't get frustrated with. Besides, this is the chance for you to use many of the under-performing units that usually don't see much play! This is why I love playing noobs!
