Hey all, so here is something my play group has been fuzzy on. If a spell is cast that has a strength value on a model with an armor save, does that model receive damage directly or do they get their potential armor save.
This is assuming the spell says nothing about negating saves and that the strength of the hit does not negate the armor save, IE a strength 4 hit on a 5+ armor save would reduce it to 6+. Thanks in advance.

Yes. The hits from a spell like Fireball or Fiery Convocation are resolved the same as any other hit either in CC or shooting. You have to wound the target unit and then the target unit gets any saves they would normally be allowed unless otherwise stated. So they get their armor saves, modified by strength as normal, and their ward saves if they have them.
