Myself and my friend have been looking at the Brb but can't seem to find an answer. Maybe we are just being blind?
When in close combat can models in the attacking unit target a character in the opposite unit?
Thanks in advance

Models attack anything in cc in base contact and supporting Attacks models use same base as the model in front of it.

What strutsagget says. BRB p. 48: "Normally, a warrior can only strike blows against an enemy model in base contact. The most common exception is if he is making a supporting attack." BRB p. 49: "A model can make a supporting attack if it is directly behind a friendly model that is itself fighting an enemy in base contact." BRB p. 99: "In the Close Combat phase, enemy models in base contact with both the character and one or more models from the character's unit can choose to attack the character or the unit, or split their attacks between them. You need to declare where attacks are being allocated before they are rolled. If the character is slain, any excess wounds do not carry over onto the rest of the unit but are simply lost. Remember that models can only attack enemies in close combat if they are in base contact. Therefore, if enemy models are only in base contact with the character, then they can only attack him. If enemies are only in base contact with models from the character's unit, they must attack the unit."

Also remember you can split the attacks if you have more then one. Let’s say hit one attack on the champion and the rest in the unit if you are in base contact with both.

When in close combat can models in the attacking unit target a character in the opposite unit? Base to base. Makes Ogre characters in the second rank impossible to hit. Greg

also makes ogre characters lose out if they have more then 3 attacks, trade off for survivability I guess.

It also makes bretonnian characters block the unit from being hit.
I usually run 2 units of 13 knights: One with a lord, BSB and a "spare paladin"
The other lance with 3 paladins with Lances, Shields + morning stars.
I don't mind being charged half the time, hehe

Yeah, a character wall and Savage Beast is a beast of a combo... IF you get the spell off.
Your opponent will do anything he can to prevent that, of course.
