pretty sure as soon as a character joins a detachment it ceases to be a detachment. so no stubborn for the archers if the wizard bunkers in there.

That limitation of previous editions does not exist in 8th anymore. That said, one would hope those Archers never need to rely on Stubborn, since you do not want the Wizard bunker in CC.
The Icon on the Al does not make much sense, though. He already has a 2+ ward save against templates from the "Look Out Sir!" rule. Give him a 5 pt magic weapon instead.
To add: it is even spelled out in the Empire Official Update Version 1.2, p. 2:
Q: Can characters join Empire Detachments? (p30) A: Yes.

Well as they don’t want to be in combat they might as well have stubborn if they get caught in combat as they can’t be chaff for the halberdiers carrying the wizard. Point limit in core is already met. The icon is not for the AL it’s for the unit. They unit will be prime target for any WMs if the AL as general is in the unit and as I had 5 more points to spend. Never been disappointed with the icon. Just my thought process.

Good point. I forgot that it also applies to the unit.
