Gave the book a go tody in a game. I found it to be a good update to the bretonnia army keeping both the flavor of other 8th army books and the traditional bretonnian type army.

My list for this was Bretonnian Lord, 5 up ward, sword of heros (strength is always 1 greater than opponents toughness), charmed shield and crown of command. He went into my knights of the realm unit. Level 4 prophetess on horse in the 2nd rank of knights of the realm
BSB grail vow, 4 up ward, went into my grail knights
12 knights of the realm FC w/standard of discipline 9 Knights Errant FC 45 Men at arms with shields and halberds set out horde style 10 bowmen 10 bowmen
9 questing knights FC 3 Pegasus knights
1 Treb 9 Grail Knights
Opponent Beastlord crown of command, 4up ward, sword of striking Level 4 great bray lore of beasts, 4 up ward
Wargor Bsb 2 up armor save and beast banner (in the gors)
49 gors AHW FC 10 raiders 10 raiders Tuskgor chariot 5 warhounds
6 minotaurs 39ish bestigors FC halberds (using the warhammer armies project book on beastmen as well) 5 harpies 1 razorgor
1 Ghorgon
A little more on this, i really like the Rules for the lance (3 cav = rank, devastating charge, all models in the flank get to attack as if they were in the front rank for the first round of combat). Grail Vow sees the grail knights always have a 5 up ward save. Questing vow has the knightd ignore striking last in the first round lf combat. It made it so it was important as ever to get those charges off. Grail Knights were deadly but I misused them and didnt get them into the action ubtil late in the game, they did kill a tuskgor chariot, what was left of a horde of gors and the bsb.
My poor BSB was killed with an amber spear. I thought of dispelling but took my chances and paid
The questing knights teamed up on one flank with the peg knights. They killed a unit of harpies and a unit of 6 minotaurs (but took 5 wounds from the minos for their troubles).
Knights of the realm and Knights errant combo charged a horde of gors. My wizard got off throne of vines, unfortunately she miscast the next spell, rolled a 1 and proceeded to kill 4 knights of the realm (oops). After combat where i won handily, the gors were steadfast (if i had those dead knights they would not of been). And he flank charged my KOR with his bestigor horde. He won the next round of combat and both my units fled, rallied and fought the bestigors again, this time the errants were killed to a man and my lord got into a challenge with his beastlord. Ended up killing the beastlord but losing combat and fled, his bestigors caught my lord.
Meanwhile the ghorgon charged my men at arm horde whl fled off the table (need to keep them closer to some knights).
Eventually one unit of bowmen put 3 wounds on the ghorgon and then got into combat with the gors and killed 6 of them! They were eventuay butchered like the peasants they are but lady bless them.
At the end of the game the beastmen won. It was a fun game. My first with Brets and my first 8th game in years. Ill be trying them again next time.

Sounds great, two armies that sorely needed the WHAP update and I've been happy with the Beastmen end of that.

As a long time beastmen player i liked the changes he did to that book.
Pros: -Options for bestigors (halberds, marks) -Everything repointed to be more in line with 8th armies (Im specifically looking at the well pointed monsters and minotaurs) -Return of Dragon Ogres and Trolls -Warhounds now count towards core -Regular ambush, along with getting rid of the lame you need to take an identical unit to ambush -New additions (chaos mutants which are always referenced lorewise, a hag tree monster, ramhorn chariot) -Did i mention things being better points wise?
Cons -no frenzy on double 1 for primal fury (eh no big loss but that was always a surprise when it happens) -raiders min unit size is 10 instead of 5. -no more jagged dagger. I know sacrifices (to the 8th edition gods) have to be made for magic items, but this one was always fun
All in all, a welcome improvement

Shame about the jagged dagger. Even though it never really pays off for me that much, I can’t stop taking it on a lvl4 beast shaman.
