Hi folks.
I am going to finally paint my orcs and goblin army ( huge but wished was bigger...) and I had the feeling to work on a new army list .
My idea is
- playing an army list somehow “original. I am bored of seeing the savage big orcs horde list ...
Using cavalry ( I like a lot our boarszzzz )
using orc big uns ( I am using for them my black orcs miniatures. Why? Because I don't like regular orcs miniatures and I strongly believe that blackorcs miniatures are so beautiful and can represent perfectly the idea of basic bulked troops. For sure the big armour they have doesn't represent the simple light armour Big uns have...but we could complain the same if we think that black orcs miniatures are covered with metal plate and have only an AS 5+.
I want to field a couple of Lord /heroes on boar!! giving to the general an amazing armour save 1+ rerollable!!!Yessssssssssssssssss
I love orc boars chariots ...they are fitting in the boars theme and I am going to field three of them ! Yezzzzz
If all this sounds cool , if you want to know more about my strategy ..then keep on reading …:-)

Orcs & Goblins - [2,399pts] ++
+ Lords [567pts] +
Black Orc Warboss [277pts]: Shield [3pts]
. . Magic Items [90pts]: BRB - Crown of Command [35pts], BRB - Dawnstone [25pts], BRB - Dragonhelm [10pts], BRB - Sword of Might [20pts]
. . War Boar [24pts]: War Boar
Ok here you are this jewel ….the alfa orc...the one who knows how to lead a pack.
AS 1+ re- roll failed armour save!! …. this is simply amazing
WS 2+ vs flame attack ...a useful bonus
he and his unit are stubborn
magic weapon +1 Strength ( it means strength 7 the first turn of combat and then Strength 6)
I was tempted to give him also a WS4+ but the price was renouncing to the crown which I think it's crucial in a cavalry Unit. 8 yes he will lead the orc boars unit )
Savage Orc Great Shaman [290pts]: Lore of da Big Waaagh!, Wizard Level 4 [35pts]
. . Magic Items [85pts]: AB - Lucky Shrunken Head (Savage Orc Shaman or Great Shaman only) [50pts], BRB - Fencer's Blades [35pts]
pretty standard.....
I like him.

+ Heroes [463pts] +
Black Orc Big Boss [181pts]: Battle Standard Bearer [25pts] . . Magic Items [50pts]: BRB - Charmed Shield [5pts], BRB - Talisman of Preservation [45pts] . . War Boar [16pts]: War Boar
here you are another black orc bsb I decided to field him as I always wanted. He will lead the big uns orc.
Cons ... Ok I know he won't have look out sir Pros - he looks cool in that block of orcs ….believe me he mitigates animosity Ward save S 4+ ( the best protection I can give him ) Armour Save 2+ not bad ...absolutely not bad the first hit is discounted on a roll of 2 + ( this is crucial protection in case the opponent decides to shoot with a war machine on him )
Goblin Big Boss [66pts]: Light Armour [2pts], Shield [2pts] . . Armour: Light Armour, Shield, Model: Goblin Big Boss, Weapon: Hand Weapon . . . . Model: Giant Wolf . . . . Talisman: Opal Amulet
I wanted him instead of 5 wolf goblins I think he is a sneaky hero. 5 goblins can panic too easily if I lose just a couple of them
Orc Big Boss [121pts] . . Armour: Light Armour, Model: Orc Big Boss, Weapon: Hand Weapon . . . . Arcane and Enchanted Item: Ironcurse Icon, Armour: Enchanted Shield, Weapon: Ogre Blade . . War Boar [16pts]: War Boar
he is in my Shock boars troop. Adding the punch I want and giving a ws 6+ to unit vs War machine armour save 2+ magic weapon ...and 2+ Strenght attacks.. nasty guy for, all in all, a reasonable price. In case we need we can also decide to unleash him alone during the game ...he will buy us the time we need protecting maybe the flank of our unit from a dangerous threat.
Savage Orc Shaman [95pts]: Lore of da Big Waaagh!, Wizard Level 1 . . Model: Savage Orc Shaman, Weapon: Hand Weapon . . Magic Items [25pts]: BRB - Dispel Scroll [25pts] . . . . Arcane and Enchanted Item: Dispel Scroll
In my first list he was not included It happened a couple of time my Lord wizard didn't get the foot spell and I missed a lot the dispel scroll.... So I had to include this guy for a more reliable magic phase +1 additional dice to channel + Ward save 5+ ( thanks to my lord shaman) + dispel scroll + I will have almost all the spells of the lore.
- I had to sacrifice a hitting hero on boar ….I miss a little bit his additional S6 attacks in the boars unit but this list has to be played very carefully for being effective and any little details can mean a lot. This second wizard seemed to help me much more than a hero on boar and he is also cheaper

+ Core [634pts] +
Orc Big 'Uns [356pts] . . Boss [15pts] . . Musician [10pts] . . 34x Orc Big 'Un [306pts]: 34x Additional Hand Weapons [34pts] . . Standard Bearer [25pts]: BRB - Standard of Discipline [15pts]
bsb black orc fielded with them 6x6 wide.... lovely shape....isn't it?
-Double hand weapons -WS 4 T 4 -standard of discipline and bsb means having a D9 re -rollable and being steadfast considering the 6x6 shape.
It's a solid choice which can stand on his own but can be really dangerous if supported even if with only a chariot .
Savage Orcs [278pts]: Boss [15pts], Musician [10pts], Standard Bearer [10pts] . . 27x Savage Orc [243pts]: 27x Bows [27pts]
6x5 wide
ok, I admit it was not easy to chose this setup . I asked my self what i want them doing. Answer was: being a bunker for the wizards being a support unit in the late game keeping a flank light shooting ( I don 't have orcs with arrows and I also don 't like the miniatures so I am not going to buy them on ebay or somewhere else ) . I don't have so many chaff unit so I need arrowsto clear the way. Anyway -They are T 4 , Ward save 5+ 2 attacks strenghth 4 at least in the beginning of the fight they provide around 19 shoots per turn ( 24”) if they stand still.( it can be enough for the purpose )

+ Special [565pts] +
Orc Boar Boyz [310pts]: War Boar
. . Armour: Light Armour, Model: Orc Boar Boy Boss, War Boar, Weapon: Hand Weapon
. . Boss [15pts] Musician [10pts]
. . 13x Orc Boar Boyz [260pts]: 13x Shields [26pts], 13x Spears [26pts]
. . Standard Bearer [25pts]: BRB - Banner of Swiftness [15pts]
my shock Unit!!!
I love them
8th ed. is not the best edition for cavalry but I want to make them work .
They are T 4 armour save 3+ ...not bad ..
In charge they have S5 and so the boars....
They are stubborn ...they have WS 6+ vs War machine
full command
Standard of swiftness for improving their mobility
general and hero for giving them a more effective punch.
Once they will get stuck in combat and all the bonus of charge disappear the lord and hero attacks will be crucial and so it will be the crown of command .
Orc Boar Chariot [85pts]: 2x Crew, 2x Steeds
Orc Boar Chariot [85pts]: 2x Crew, 2x Steeds
Orc Boar Chariot [85pts]: 2x Crew, 2x Steeds
who cares about chaff folks...
I have boar chariots!
I was not sold to use them because I was using wolf chariots which are cheaper and cover the same rule.....but believe me once you go with 3 of them you won't never go back .
They are resilient ( T5 , armour save 4+ , 4 wounds and Strength 5 …..d6+1 impact hits …)
In this list they are also crucial.
They cover flanks., provide support flank charge ...they can get rid of chaff , they are annoying …
they can buy us time we need to move troops where we want ( even using hand of gork )
they are also juicy target for enemy's war machines but our bsb will thank them for this.

+ Rare [170pts] +
Goblin Rock Lobber [85pts]: 3x Crew
Goblin Rock Lobber [85pts]: 3x Crew
ok here maybe I can swap a rock lobber for a doom diver ….
but they really served me well.
In case you play 2500 points list I would suggest to add either
- 2 wolf chariots for more pressure and impact hits or
- doom diver + 1 /2 orcs ( if you need more artillery )
In another post will try to explain how I play them and maybe I will tell you about some battles I lost and some I won with them .
I am sure a lot, maybe everything, was told on greenskinzzzz but I hope I am bringing a fresh breeze to the thread
hoping it was helpful and you enjoyed .

the list is almost the same.
I wanted to make the orcs boar boys Biguns....but they would have cost too much and i would have had only 10 + Gorbad and a hero... Honestly, 10 bodies are not enough as a bunker and I wanted a unit of 5 x 3. So I left the unit how it was but I had to cut here and there ( - no magic shield to BO boss and - no champion in the boar boys unit - minus 3 savages :-( and I had to change orc hero setup for giving him crown of command ...it 's really important for saving our Gorbard in case we lose fight. . He has an AS 2+ rerollable once...and magic weapon.) the list is pretty solid . Gorbad Unit ( but also the same unit with the BO general ) has to played carefully...but can be really funny to play.

Recently I played against Ogre and I did it twice...
I tested both lists...
In the first battle
OGRE kingdom army was more or less this one:
-Wizard general lev 4 Ws4+ crown of command
BSB ws 4+
Wizard lev 1 Beast dispel scroll
-Ironguts deathstar ( 14+ general +BSB standard of discipline)
-5 bulls + wizard
-3 mournfangs AS2+
- 2 tigers ( chaff)
- Thundertusk
-2 ironblasters
This list is strong and he could play it very well.
On the 6th turn on the table remained only my unit of savages ( halved) with wizard and my BSB on boar . OK general lost everything except one Ironblaster
the gutstar is scary and I crushed against a wall when I charged with my cavalry.
It took 3 turns of attrition warfare and multiple charges to have the upper hand...
Chariots were crucial to hold the flank ...magnetize cannons and charging for giving support.
Simply amazing battle!

Second battle
I used the second list with GORBAD!!!!
He s my favourite special character ...and he can be really effective.
Now here comes the fun...
My opponent played same list but we decide to follow the “Stillmania “style …
He added to the lista Giant and an additional mournfang!!!!!!!
The mission was defending at any cost a temple located in my deployment zone ( at the end of sixth turn no enemy should have been in that square)
lads....the view of OK army was really amazing but scary at same time.
deployment
IRON FANGS S THUND IRONGUTS 6 BULLS S GIANT IRON
CHAR1 Wolf BOARS BIGUNS SAVAGES CHAR2 CHAR3
WM Temple WM
I played really carefully using my only chaff to delay the giant and, in the meanwhile, my wm to kill the mammoth.
I sacrificed my chariots for buying time on one flank ...and in the middle of the battlefield I charged the mournfang at the right time with gorbad and his unit.
Gorbad was amazing ….he killed almost 2 mournfangs and the other hero with boarboys did a massacre leaving alive only a rhino ...which fled.
I could not pursue it because I needed to control and defend that territory so I simply turned the cavalry in order to be ready to be charged by a iron blaster which was coming very near .
The gut star got rid easily of my biguns orc....who defended my centre :-( They didn't die before killing several guts...
4th turn Gorbad's unit is charged by the iron blaster (which was the last to survive on a flank ) . After impact hits Gorbad reacts ....and smashed the enemy with astonishing attacks....
The ironblaster was cut in half by Gorbad 's axe!!! ( striking first and D3 wounds ...are amazing.) later I charged on a flank the guts with my savages.
Desperate action to delay them …..
On 5th turn I was able to charge with Gorbad unit the side of the Guts and support my savages before it was too late. here comes the magic....
Gorbad was in contact base with Ogre general and he was able to kill him in one turn although the Ogre had 5 wounds and WS 4+. the Guts were not anymore stubborn .....and Even with the bsb they had to flee....and leave also my deployment zone . My boar boys pursued them and killed them .. Bloody battle.

let's go now to some tactical suggestions
Boar Chariots
Deployment
chariots generally work good on flank because :
- if they die they won't make panic any other troop - They have more mobility
- they protect our main units flank
But they can also rush into enemy territory if we have the chance.
on one flank I use 2 of them on the other side i deploy 1 wolf hero +1 chariot
all in all 2 units "per wing".
one interesting strategy on the side with 2 chariots can be using one chariot as "bait" and move the other in a way which provide us a letal counter charge ( it works generally vs unit not so strong )
A general tactic I use ( in case one or more survive) is to converge them on the centre of the battlefield in the late game in order to support our main forces..
Their impact hits + bonus for rear or flank charge often can give us the upper hand in a fight of attrition.
(Our boar boys can need help once they lost their charge bonuses )

Savages have bows for a reason....
kill chaff.( or at least make it panic and flee...)
Generally they have 2 boars chariots on their flank so we should try to clear them the way.
it will not always work but because they will be the last unit to engage a fight ..somehow we will have time to find a target for our bows ( and also soften an enemy unit can be fine).
the best will be having them as support for our biguns or boar boys.
Anyway sometimes they will fight alone and it's always important to
- already cast on our wizard fist of gork
He will have fencer blades +3 attacks (+3 strength)
- cast Ere We Go!
Both are crucial spells because Savages are not biguns and they need magic support .
In the first fight they will have anyway 2 attacks per each at S4.....all in all not that bad.

Orc Boys
1) they are Gorbad bodyguards It means giving our General and Bsb a look out sir I wanted them being biguns but having 10 of them instead of 13 would make for me a huge difference. ( see point 4 also)
2) They have T4 ( I mention this because I used to play him in a unit of wolf riders 12 or 14 bodies.
they are cheaper but more vulnerable with lower T and AS 4+. Their function was limited to a bunker instead boar boys can be used proactively.)
3) AS 3+ (it's really handy ...)
4) A orc hero in the same unit make this unit 5 x 3 ranks ...and this is really important because with a flank or rear charge we have a chance to disrupt enemy.
5) S5 boys on charge with boar +2 Strength ( we won't lose almost never our first round in fighting if we charge)

6) problem can come if we get stuck in fight ....
This is a problem common with all heavy cavalry.
boys will not be anymore so effective after the first fight and that's why we should charge the enemy at the right time .
Generally we should prefer to do a charge on a flank or rear.
Frontal charge are really dangerous and should be done only in desperate situation ( ensuring, in this case, to have at least
another unit charging on the flank and providing them support).
Generally I recommend to not rush into enemy territory alone.
we are good to keep the flank together with chariot but we cannot imagine to win the game only with ths Unit.
On their side we should always have the goblin hero chaff near in order to buy us time and deviate enemy charges from our boars...
If he doens't die before, this nasty goblin on his wolf will give us the chance to charge a juicy unit maybe once he finished his job.
we should not go so deep in enemy territory also to avoid to get stuck in a combat and be flanked by enemy troops.
Generally you should march / movie or wait ( it depends on the opponent) always with the side covered by Biguns boys .
Bigun should charge first and only after we can support with our cavalry .
Biguns can win some fight alone but in case they are not able they should remains at least steadfast ( hopefully) ad give so time to Gorbad to arrive .
Doing the opposite ..charging with cavalry and only after supporting with biguns can be done but it will cause some issues.
- If we charge frontal probably we cannot maximise our attacks with our biguns and this will cost us maybe the game considering they have a bonus in Strength and it
will be wasted if only some of them are in contact with the enemy.
- Gorbad will be exposed to more attacks ....and also our orc hero on boar.
If the latter dies we won't be more stubborn and if boar flees we are going to lose Gorbad.
On conclusion This amazing unit should be played carefully ....
It can be devastating sometimes ( see Battle report above) but we should choose carefully our target and move even more carefully.
I think i can also put it in this way....Gorbad is controlling an area and this area is just on a side of our Biguns ' one.
boar boys and Biguns should not get in each other 's way . Biguns are the real spearhead of the army.
I hope you enjoyed

Gorbad is difficult to use, I need more practice myself with him. You have to be very careful where to apply him. He is good at smashing face but is sooooo soft at only T5 3+ AS that you have to be wary of even rank and file troops
