Now it's something that I thought for a long time monstrous cavalry mounts operated like monster mounts that if the rider dies it may operate independntly.
If you look up the points cost for the monstrous beast let's say a great eagle it costs 50 ppm in the unit entry and also 50 points for a mount upgrade for a prince.
BUT on page 83 of brb it says all cavalry rules on page 82 and 83 of brb apply to MC except MC use highest wound characteristic.
So a MC is one model with x wounds and once rider is dead so is mount.
BUT on page 62 of Orc & goblin army book under great cave squigs there is the rule supreme bounder. Where it says....
"A great cave squig that is used as a mount for a character may....(blah)...as long as the character is still alive."
Ok two things, the first half of that sentence is irrelevant since they can only be taken as mounts by only characters and the second half of the statement leads one to believe that it operates to the ridden monster rules on page 104-105 of brb.
So what the FETH?

Just some redundant stuff in the Great Cave Squig entry. Your reading of the BRB is correct, it's a single model and you can't kill rider/mount separately.
