I have found that some sort of character customization restriction is good for the bigger games. For example in the "Breaking of Kislev" game that I played recently with Naitsabes (yes the one with Krakanrock) we restricted magic items so that only five characters on each side were allowed to have any (although these "legendary lords" then had no points restrictions for those items). We allowed other characters obviously but the item restriction really cut down on the number of unique things which needed to be referenced during the game itself.

The biggest game I remember playing in was a storm of magic game which included Kevin C. and Rick from here plus a few others. It was 3 vs 3 and I think it was 2,500 per person plus the 25% monsters and magic so a bit over 9,000 points a side. We didn't make any rules changes (outside of storm of magic). It took roughly 6 hours.

Krakanrok the Black, Father of all Dragon Ogres, is a large, large fellow.

Krakanrok indeed was too big to be slain we decided. He was essentially a piece of movable terrain. Moving towards the Gate of Kislev a random distance each turn and once he got there that ended the game. Any units he touched on his way broke and took some damage. Made for some interesting decisions as the battle raged around him and you had to decide if it was worth trying to jump the tracks in front of the oncoming freight train.
Victory was decided by counting up how many victory points the defenders scored. We needed 20K for a win and made it to 17K. So Kislev not only fell (as was clear from the beginning), the Chaos horde wasn't even bloodied enough to pause on its way south. These were the End Times indeed.
Anton, that sounds like a great family bonding experience. I do agree that having enough turns to resolve the battle is important. It's just not always practical unfortunately.
What do you guys think about undead in this size games? With their special rules and dependence on their general, are they at a disadvantage?

I have 6K points of Tomb Kings, maybe more. TheREALricksalamone has some 1000's of points of Wampeer Counts. I think we could do a 10K Vs 10K. avatarofbugman has a lot of Dwarfs and dannytee has a lot of Dwarfs. Just need to come up with a cool scenario as to why said armies would want to fight each other so much. It would be a slow moving affair, M3 on one side, M4 no march on the other side. Imagine if a turtle (Dwarf) fought a banana slug (undeads).
