Managed to finish something new in less than 1 month, 6 Dark Elf Shades, good going for me compared to my speed for the rest of 2021! Next up I'll be painting the Dragon from the old Rakarth model which will be standing in for Omdra the Dread, nightmare dragon in the Tamurkhan campaign. I've magnetised it so it can be the mount for Rakarth and also Malekith once they're eventually painted

It was worth it though. The hellcannon looks amazing.

Classic dragon, and really well painted. I'd use Rakarth as a Dreadlord these days. Or just house rule it - a Black Dragon costs 150 points more than a Manticore for Dreadlords, so just add 150 points to the cost of your High Beastmaster and use him on the dragon.

I agree, 150 pt upgrade cost seems appropriate, but the main question is if it's worth it. A Beastlord on Manticore with his special "make monsters attack" rule, plus the Manticore's Rage attack special rules, give the Beastlord a magical "more attacks" weapon, in addition to their already high count of normal attacks, and you have a flying, terrifying mass of pure destruction! If you can survive one round of canon fire, then you've got the game won my friend! (Especially if you load up on Kharibdis's, Hydras, Masters on Pegasus's, etc. Dark Elves are the masters of monster mashes! So much win!

I really like the colours on the dragon. Really nicely executed. You can always just proxy him as riding a manticore.

Love that dragon fella, and the shades too. Once again, I think you ought to change the thread title. Excellent stuff!

I did a quick 15 minute test model for my next army, does anyone have any tips for a quick way to make the shield look a bit more weathered? I've got 120 skeleton warriors so I'm trying to figure out quick methods so they don't take all year!

A wash of brown ink always makes things look more worn. Or drybrush a light dirt colour around the edges.
Having bits of the wood show under flaking paint is the best way, but is usually time consuming to do.
