The scorpions look very dynamic crawling all over those rocks. Should be very cool when done.

Wil, that scorpion unit is the coolest thing ever! I love it. Nice work. Please bring the finished unit to the mega-battle... 100% Yes I am running them as Tomb Kings Chariots.

Mega.... just mega... What a unit! Looks fantastic....and a hell of a lot scarier than 6 standard TK chariots. The tomb guard crew look a lot better than the stock guys.

Newest Project: Obelisk Crows. Skeletons riding desert carrion crows...

These are old metal Wood Elf Warhawks I had from, say, 1998. Cool enough looking birds, but daggnabbit they are metal and they love to fall apart. The wings just, flop, off. I drilled and pinned with the thinnest yet strongest metal wire I could find, which kind of helps. Nonetheless, a stiff breeze could table this unit. I think the front and center model is actually a super old (even older) High Elf War Eagle, cause it is slightly bigger.
So now instead of weedy elf types, we have skeletons on crows. Cool. Good ol' WS2 skellies, gettin the job done. The Tomb Kings book has stats for basic skeletons. The Tomb Kings book has stats for Carrion. Combine them, and presto - new unit. No idea on special rules yet - - - would love ideas. I just made the unit cause I thought they would end up looking cool. And they're on the way to looking cool IMHO. Yay.
Rules wise... I guess we'd run these as Monstrous Cavalry. Maybe use that troop type and special rule removing stomp. I don't see how bone crows could stomp anybody. If I could come up with a special rule it would be "Harry". But I don't think it spelled that way. "Harry" meaning annoy and tie up and slow down without actually committing to a full blown battle royale combat. Maybe the Obelisk Crow unit can choose to "Harry" in a round of combat, giving themselves a -1 to hit and a -1S but forcing opponents to re-roll all successful hits and all successful wounds. This, to me, conjures up images of rotting dead birds flapping about avoiding being hit.
I don't thing it would be overpowered because a unit of Obelisk Crows can't "Harry" forever. They're still undead and if they fight a Rank & File unit or Deathstar, they'll still start crumbling pretty quickly. I think it important to note that I would NOT give this unit the option to take a unit champion or standard bearer or musician.
Still completely open to ideas... Just painting them now. More pics to come soon!

Cool idea. I don't know about that harrying stuff. They do look like they would do some damage with the giant lances.
I don't have a good suggestion how to do it but, it would be nice if the birds looked more like carrions or at least less happy and healthy.

In the 7th edition Lizardmen book Terradon Riders had a special rule called Hit and Run which allowed them to use the Feigned Flight rule as if they were Fast Cavalry. Now the Feigned Flight rule doesn't even exist anymore but in 7th edition I believe it was basically the unit could flee from a charge and if the rally test was passed in their next turn they could reform as normal but could then also make a full move (and even shoot).

Well well well, has anyone else seen the new White Dwarf? TZAANGOR ENLIGHTENED www.warhammer-community.com/2017/01/21/tzaanuary-tzaangor-day-jan21/$35 for 3 large disc riding beastmen/birdmen type dudes? Not bad. Great minis. Good value. In my GW shopping cart. Obv, these will go on bases with right angles. Not even sure what existing army I could add these to. I just really like the minis and I can almost afford $35 frivolous dollars this month. But just $35

Please post pics of their assembly. You could potentially proxy the enlightened as Carrion for your tomb kings (both have feathers and the same base size). If you go the a option you could play them as flying Ushabti with bows The Tomb Kings do worship a bird headed dirty afterall....

It was very tough to choose between the Starfires (Bows) and Enlightened (Halbaerds). Yes, of course I debated a box of each. Would have been $70 and passed the magic mark for $65+ for free shipping, but... in the end, I went with one box of Enlightened. Just hit BUY 10 seconds ago. Very excited to get these guys and lavish lots of extra time on them. If I like them, I could easily see buying another box.
Final use still TBD, but for right now, I am thinking that thematically these guys make a ton of sense as an aligned force with my Human/Empire Nippon & Cathay army. The entire Tzeentchian motif feel, IMHO, to fit in with this slice of the universe. I could easily see a Chaos God like Tzeentch corrupted the forces of Imperial Cathay without them even knowing it. Both Chinese and Japanese mythology have a prevalent belief in spirits and demons, and my reading makes it feel like in both cultures, a demon wasn't necessarily pure evil... they could be good, helpful, mischievous and all sorts in between. Lots of bird iconography is right on spot.
In any event, as the self-proclaimed largest Cathayan & Nipponese Warhammer Army active in 8th edition, kinda feels like I get to write my own story. So my own story shall dictate that a Tzeentchian coven is going to be attached to my otherwise human army in the coming months. Yippee! If anyone has any good leads on old metal Blue and/or Pink Horrors, holler and let me know. I think they would make perfect Oni as another part of this Subvert Chaotic & Demonic Force.

Dug out some old unpainted plastic and metal Beastmen. Trying out some paint schemes in preparation of all those disc riding bird-beast-men. Like, orange skin with yellow fur; yellow skin with orange fur, etc. Again, these are locked as a allied contingent to my Empire/Cathay/Nippon army, so I am 100% on the orange>>yellow palette. Maybe some reds as a spot colors. Very open for metals - need to see if dark irons work best, or silvers, or brass and bronze. Will be reporting more soon!
