Yeah even against ogres the steam gun is better. You should get a minimum of 4-6 hits really so 2~ wounds against poor saves, brimstone would be very lucky to get 2 hits... It's like they wanted the brimstone gun to suck, or maybe were being too cautious over highly mobile S5 shooting which I could understand. Regarding the steam gun sns, I can't argue with the above points but I must admit this feels like an oversight rather than what was intended. Not sure I could keep a straight face while explaining to my opponent that I get a stand and shoot .

There are precedents. For instance, the rules of the Skaven Warpfire Thrower (still 7th edition, when the "Slow to Fire" special rule did not exist) specify that it "can stand & shoot, if it is charged." Contrary to the steam gun, the Warpfire Thrower actually has a range.

On a more general note: personally, I should think that weapons like cannon and the HBVG should be able to S&S (at the very least with shrapnel), perhaps with the proviso that, if they do, they cannot fire in their next Shooting phase.

Fair enough, shame they never bothered to do an FAQ for all factions. I could see a grapeshot S&S, my only concern would be is this too good against things that are supposed to counter war machines (skirmishers/light cav). An organ gun that could S&S would be disgusting!

That'd be understandable/acceptable if they were on square bases and could only fire to their forward arc. Pivoting a cannon 180° for a stand and shoot when being charged in the rear seems less plausible.

True, depending on the distance of the attacker. Perhaps no S&S if the charge is declared within 10" of the war machine. That said, the issue is rather moot for EEFL.
