After a return to painting at the beginning of last year with a lengthy amount of time off I have dithered between forces and lists and really couldn't settle on something I like aesthetically but also had the patience to fully paint and further that I would enjoy the play style of. I have therefore landed on wood elves, all forest spirits to be precise. Not groundbreaking or particularly inspired... But certainly something I know I'm going to enjoy. I have ordered a full 2k list, and am currently knee deep in little plastic branches! π²π€£π² I have painted my first character and unit in a branchwitch and box of dryads... And built a Treelord, with spear conversion instead of his staff. And a conversion for my second branchwitch with a different pose and familiar More to follow with treekin, converted great stag and rider... And plenty more smaller trees!

So here's a little conversion work from after work session. My proxy for Wood elf bsb on great stag - I was never keen on the steroid injected stud stag anyway... And the fact it's oop and expensive on the second hand market is just the excuse I need to use a cool model I like. The Warcry mindstealer sphiranx makes an adequate great stag, being similar in size and bulk, having horns and 4 legs and fitting (just!) on a 50x50mm base. My bsb is obviously not a tree spirit however I wanted something to fit the scheme so went with a conversion of one on Ylthari's Guardians, replacing both hands, scratch building a banner pole and trailing vines and mounting the already suitable pose on my great stag's back. I was going to go further and replace the Sphiranx fade with a spare treeman head however I really liked the original model and so when it came down to actually doing it I ended up using it as-is. Interested to hear your thoughts and opinions... How does it look? Would you be happy playing against it? Is it clear (amongst a full forest spirit army) what it is?

Cool conversion. The Sphiranx isn't particularly Wood Elvish but the right paint job (more natural stagish tones?) should make it fit in.
The rider does look like he's sitting a little further back than mounted models normally are, which is noticeable in the second photo, but not in the first.

it's pretty clear that it is a BSB on stag. and that's the key point achieved.
I will echo sedge that the riders position is a bit awkward. on such a weird creature it won't be easy to put him further to the front. maybe if you furnished some kind of saddle to give the rider a more horizontal perch? (the wacky way would be the rider surfing on the mount but I don't think that's a good idea).
paint job will be key to make him go with the army. Try to hide those front leg armor plates somehow? keep us updated! The sweet dryads make me think you can pull this off.

A WIP on this guy, having woken up early and not being able to get back off I thought I'd make a start. The fur on the neck is amazingly sculpted however elsewhere is only on the model in tufts... Therefore I've taken to painting in the fur texture on the flat parts to add a bit of something rather than paint and highlight. Long work but think it's worth it.

Just working on the base but this guys pretty much done after some overnight work.. Added a 'cloak' of thorns to the character and swapped the left hand. Very pleased with him overall, different looking π

Basing all done so calling him finished A nice diversions from painting just trees and a good centerpiece for the force. This was my first time painting fΓΌr effect on flat surfaces too so, there's that. As polished and expert as some other painters? Absolutely not, but I like it βοΈ

The mounted BSB is very nice Kamenrider and your making good progress on your army. Looking forward to seeing your converted treeman painted up.

I'm trying very hard to put off/save all 3 treemen for after all my core is done. As a 'treat' of sorts... Though we'll see if that lasts!

A little more progress today, with the second set of dryads and their branchwraith completed. Very similar to the first set with same method of painting and basing. One more box of these to go, and that's my core done up to 2000pts. I'm really trying hard to not paint my big guys yet - they are my reward for painting all the core but will hopefully be arriving soon. Little group shot too... Showing the full family tree on display, and note a quick movement tray knocked up too. In other less interesting news - I picked up some new pluck foam for my case so everything can stand up and be safe in transit for when I take these out... And Drycha is on her way from GW direct, to add in to list at games pointed above 2000.

The branchwraith is looking very good Kamenrider and particularly like how youβve painted the face and weapon to have that glowing effect. Did you go for the new Drycha or the older metal one for your army ?
