Hi all,
a new user here. First of all, I want to thank all active members of this forum. I've read this for some time, and it has deepened my understanding of the noblest of games a lot. Despite playing FaBa for 15 years, there always pops up weird situations or funky ideas about army lists, and this forum has offered solutions.
My question, however, might be quite simple, but me and my friends have not found a clear wording about it. Can you move characters inside the unit's front rank freely, or is it somehow restricted? Of course, in normal situations, the characters are in the front rank alongside the command group, but how about their places in the front rank? In challenges, the characters are moved to face each other (challenger stays, challenged moves), but what if I want to move, let's say, a wizard from one corner to the other corner of the unit's front rank during my movement phase to be able to cast a magic missile, or to avoid enemy LoS, or just because I feel like it? Thanks in advance!

Welcome!
There are no specific restrictions on the position of a character in the front rank - nor of the command group, for that matter. The members of the CG do not need to be positioned in the middle, nor, indeed, next to each other; they just need to be in the front rank (if possible).
Apart from Make Way! and challenges, there are a number of ways a character can change his position, but normally with the restrictions that he must be placed in the front rank, if a space is available, and that he cannot move more than twice his Movement rate.
1. Simply during a normal move 2. During a reform 3. During a combat reform (with the added restriction that all models that were in CC need to remain in CC)
BRB Official Update Version 1.9, p.11: Q: Can characters change position inside a unit as part of a normal move?(p97) A: Yes, as long as they end up in the rank closest to the front of the unit that has a space in. It is also worth remembering that even if only the character moves the whole unit will count as moving that turn. Having a belligerent officer barge his way through the unit is not conducive to a good round of shooting!

Excellent, thank you! This is pretty much how we have played it, but never had "official confirmation" about it. Where were the BRB Official Updates originally shared? I bought my BRB back in 2012, but I can't remember ever seeing the official updates anywhere.

At the time, the Update Versions were available on GW's website, but not anymore. KevinC has collected them all here.
