So, a quick question. Mate of mine is putting together the new Kroak model. Obviously it’s very detailed and is aimed at AoS (obviously) it won’t fit on a 50x50 I’m sure so how is it best to calculator thinks like the Temple guard ranks etc.
He’ll get the auto look out sir roll but any template weapons are most likely to clip him and therefore just hit one model not a few as would have been the case.
The rank thing, if say he gets it on a 100x50 that’s the space for 4 Temple guard 80% of a rank bonus if you prefer.

So I really like the new model, even if it is ridiculously big compared to the older ones.
I've not got around to buying him yet, so not entirely sure how the kit goes together but from looking at the model from the previews I've decide there is one of two ways I will deal with the increased base size needed.
-The model is already floating. Bit of clever snipping and remodelling should allow the model to be raised up higher on brass rod and then still fit onto a 50mm.
-If the model is too big to lift up any higher, I'll do a larger base to accommodate it normally, but mark out the 50x50mm base on the larger base, probably with something like a square of Aztec ruins from green stuff/roller. Then its just a case of playing it as if it was on the smaller base (using the square to mark the area for template weapons etc) and then having to suffer a bit of math keeping track of temple guard wounds for the models that would be in the spots, if the base was the 'right' size.

Marking 25mm squares on the base was a really smart idé. I will pick up on that one day when needed. then you can just add a small marker on the squares when they are dead =)
It's like a good unit filler.

I would just treat it as having the base size the model is on. Yes a template might hit less Temple Guard, but for a stone thrower you're more likely to get the central hole over the model (and the resultant D6 wounds) and a cannon will find it easier to hit. Rank bonus would usually be countered by having more of your rank and file that can direct attacks at the model, which won't happen here as he'll be in the second rank. But then the larger model means it's easier to draw line of sight.
I'm fairly relaxed about these things, so prefer not to overcomplicate them. There's plenty of idiosyncratic base sizes in WFB models anyway.
I'd also like to see how the model fits on a 100 x 50 base. I would have thought it might need a 150 x 100.

I'd lift it higher and if that looks too silly, use less of the spangly-external bits that make it awkward at the bottom of the base (so TG can get loser to him)

The bits in yellow for example... just leave them out/cut them off?

Yeah, for WFB I'd dump the whole ring structure. It looks neat, sure, but just gets in the way of a rank & flank game.

I should be getting one in the mail soon. I'll take a look at the model, in-hand, and let you know.
I've thought about this too, and even ordered more large bases for him (and others -Stonehorns). There are some really good ideas here. I've also thought about allowing him some rules like Ethereal, and just letting him float around on his own. You could also allow him the Temple Guard benefit if he's within 6" of a TG unit. That could solve the problem of fitting in the unit, bit also give him a few more benefits, worthy of his status. Yes, he'd be more powerful, but he'd also be a much larger target.
I'll let you know how I play him later, though.

He doesn't look that big from the Spikey Bits unboxing video, you could possibly winkle him onto a 50x50, if not I wouldn't have any issue with him being on a larger base. He should fit on a 100x50 pretty easily I reckon

So this person did put him on a 50mm base... But left the ring platforms on the base. Definitely able to maneuver those lower ones to be more rank and file friendly 😊
