Plain and simple. How the hell do you guys paint yellow. And I mean more than just "thin your paints". I can never get it to where I want it

Can you describe your problem more clearly? My first bit of advice is to start with a brown undercoat. It doesn't have to be dark brown. A lighter one works well and allows the yellow upper layers to have "more" coverage.

White or black base coat always seems to come through. If I go too think it leaves bad brush strokes. If I go thin I have to do so many different layers of the same coat to make it look decent.

Yeah, go with the brown base. I also do more gradations for yellow and red than for other colors.

I tend to use Bubonic Brown a lot and a bit of Iyanden Darksun. The other yellows like you say are a bit crappy and I have found I never really need a yellow much brighter than those, especially if you add a bit of white too

I also recommend using a light-to-mid brown to undercoat yellow. Iyander Darksun will cover a mid-brown well enough in two coats at most. The other yellows are good highlights from that base.
