Squabble

A unit of orcs fails animosity and rolls a Squabble result. There is one enemy unit 10" in front of them and another unit 5" behind them. How do you play this? Do they charge the unit in front or stand still? The rules talk about charging the closest enemy if possible, but it has been suggested to me they charge the closest of chargable units.

The Squabble rule (O&G AB p. 32)specifies: "If possible to do so, the unit must declare a charge against the closest enemy unit in the Charge Sub-phase. If the unit is unable to declare a charge, then a rowdy squabble breaks out and the unit may not move in the Movement phase, cast spells nor shoot this turn."
If the closest enemy unit is not in the front arc, it is not possible for the O&G unit to declare a charge against that unit, hence the last part of the rule applies.

In this case I sort of got the impression that if I refused to declare a charge against an obvious target because there was an unchargable unit closer to my orcs, I was being cheesy and taking the rules a bit to litteraly. I know what the text says, this is more of an inquiry of how that rule it's handeled on the tables.

Nope, you're not being cheesy at all. Just following the rules as written.

Hehe, thx, but I'm not sure the two are mutually exclusive. =) Given some of the things you can legally do in the Skaven and Dwarf... and High Elf and Dark Elf... and probably every other book... you may well be right. But I think among the cheesy things in WFB, this is a very mild cheddar and people will forgive you.

Wow, that actually seems like a horrible oversight, if it weren't for the "We'll Show 'Em." result actually calling out "closest VISIBLE Enemy unit" in comparison.
Though rereading Da Rules has as ever provided another unexpected boon; if theres no friendly units with Animosity close enough for the "Get 'Em." result you move on to use the "Squabble." result, including the chance to Charge, which I didn't notice before either. I always assumed you were automatically stuck if you rolled a 1 even if you didn't start hitting your own guys.
