Hi,
I've been playing recently my first games ever against a Dwarf gunline. I would like a certain clarification from one of you rule-gurus about Gyrocopter's shooting.
So, a single model is not allowed to shoot and march in the same turn, thus Dragons, Hydras and Gyros cannot march and use their breath weapons / Steam gun in the same turn. However, if two or more Gyros are together, they form a Skirmisher unit, which is allowed to march and shoot. This seems illogical - how are two Gyros able to shoot while marching while a single monster / Gyro cannot?
A unit of three 80-points Gyros flying 20" and Steam Gunning their teardrop templates each round over my precious elves with their poor T3 is not something I like too much.

The unit size of a Gyrocopter unit is always 1, and thus it cannot benefit from the Skirmisher part of the Fly special rule.

Ah, I see. Makes more sense. Gyro is still allowed to shoot with Steam Gun every turn? It isn't defined as a breath weapon, so that is how it seems.
It confuses me that Steam Tank's Steam Gun specifically says that it can shoot every turn despite being a breath weapon. A weapon named exactly the same way should imo use the exact same rule...

The Steam Tank Steam Gun can be used in Close Combat, as a Breath Weapon. The Gyrocopter Steam Gun cannot, so it is not termed as a Breath Weapon.

You are correct: the Gyrocopter Steam Gun is not a Breath Weapon. So, it can be used every turn, but, on the other hand, it cannot be used in CC. The Steam Tank's Steam Gun specifically states that it does work every turn, not despite, but because it is a Breath Weapon. Unless specifically stated otherwise, normal rules apply.

Thanks to both, this clarifies it.

Note also that the Gyrocopter's steam gun can S&S. The steam gun is not Quick to Fire, and, for the gun to be able to S&S, the enemy unit must start its charge outside its Movement characteristic. However, the steam gun does not have a range (or, to be more precise, range is not applicable). Hence, if the steam gun declares a S&S reaction, you place the template at the muzzle and only those models of the unit declaring a charge that are actually under the template will be hit.

thus Dragons, Hydras and Gyros cannot march and use their breath weapons / Steam gun in the same turn. As a side note this is also partially incorrect; the Gyro's Steam Gun is not a Breath Weapon as has been clarified. The Dragons and the Hydra DO have a Breath Weapon and Breath Weapons have a specific exemption that allows them to March and Shoot in their rules.

I actually realized this soon after posting it as I re-read carefully the Breath rules. I'm still salty about Gyro's ability to shoot every turn, but at least Hydra's can blast fire while charging.
