With our annual show back on and a shortage of display games, I volunteered to boost the numbers by running a demonstration game of fantasy. This thread will document everything in the build up to it.
Thankfully I also managed to drum up some support and there are currently 3 of us looking to run it, including our own @gregr.
With the commitment made, we then had to decide what to field, scenarios, size etc.
Size
With the ability to play solidly all day, it gave a rare opportunity to run a larger game. As such I immediately dug out my armies to see what had the greatest number of painted models. It should come as no surprise that it was the dwarves and after jotting them up, it came to around 8k. Even better, many of the models make up larger blocks of troops, which visually would look good in a demo game. With this value of painted models, they would then happily form the core of one side. The question became, who should then face them?
With Greg joining us, he offered to bring his Empire (circa 3.5k pts) and this started to spark an idea for the battle in my head. With 4.5k of points to make up I continued the theme of what would look good.
My Lizards immediately came to mind, not that any of my painted models are masterclasses but the painted lizards are almost all monsters and all have more striking colour schemes. These came to around 2k, not a legal force at all but for the purposes of the demo that didn't matter too much.
With 2.5k left I had three realistic choices for the final force, High Elves, Wood Elves or Brets. With the HE and Brets having limited painted options, I decided to go with WE's so the forces weren't too 'bitty' and because it had a good variety of models. After joting up the painted models it came to around 4.5k. This would put the Empire Alliance 2k over the dwarves. I could of dropped the Lizards, but I really wanted to field the monsters so with some creative removal of models, the WE's were trimmed to 3.5k. This would still mean the Empire alliance would out value the dwarves but that was fine.

Scenario / Special Rules
The following are the first draft of the background and army wide rules.
Background
After a trader had reported the presence of an unusual dwarf statue in the centre of the village of Bogenhof, a delegation was sent from the nearest hold, Karak Silvertop, to investigate. To their surprise and delight, what they discovered was one of the lost Gronti Duraz, a Rune Golem from the age of legends.
The delegation immediately spoke to the village council to reclaim what was rightfully theirs but to their anger, the honourless manlings rejected their lawful claim! Incensed, the dwarves returned to their mountain stronghold. Upon hearing the news, the hold’s Runelord, Barlin, argued for setting forth immediately to capture the dwarven wonder. The King of the Silvertop clan briefly consulted with the clan elders and the visiting Ungrim Ironfist and after a short deliberation, ordered the forces of the hold to set forth.
Seeing the approach of the dwarf expeditionary force, the humans fled, allowing the dwarves to effortless capture the village. With the hovel in their grasp, the Runelord and apprentices started the ritual of awakening, unaware that other forces were approaching…
Set up
The battle will be played on a 8*6 table.
The village of Bogenhof will be in the centre of the table with the Golem. The Dwarves will deploy in the village.
The Empire relief force and Lizardmen will deploy on one side and the Wood Elves on the other.
The Empire Alliance will get first turn.
The Golem cannot be targeted or hurt in any manner until it has been awakened
Turn 3
From turn 3, the Golem has been awakened and can be used by the dwarf player. It has the following Profile.
Type M WS BS S T W I A LD Save
Monster 6 4 - 7 7 6 2 5 10 3+
Special Rules: Terror, Immune to psychology, Stubborn, Impact hits (D6), Thunderstomp.
Army wide loadouts

Big battles are great and I am a sucker for a terrain themed thread. Good progress on the settlement, the garden of morr is quite a looker. Are you basing all of the village on oop GW terrain, or will there be some scratch building involved? Looking forward to more.

Basing for my old style GW ‘brush’ trees are complete. Had a bit of an issue where my old flock ran out and the new one didn’t match 🤦♂️. Should be ok though as the trees will pretty much cover the bases.

I have one scratch built building, a little house, build years ago using a template in a WD (I’m guessing in the 130-160 range). I have a large river that I picked up off a chap who made it, the compulsory citadel forest (for wood elves) and another 5-6 (built) older card buildings (4/5th edition) and another to glue together. Although using them won’t look as good (they have a certain charm), it’s down to the limited time and the fact I’m doing all of it off my own back.

A bit late to the party, but if you wanted an extra pair of hands for the day, and can accept a south-west Londoner, I could potentially help out.
I've also got scenery and armies I could contribute.

Cheers bud. You are more than welcome to help out. We’re sorted for armies (Luke Blaxill is also a potential and is really keen to bring his Bretonnians so we might be changing up the armies), so if you came you could just bring yourself.
