Hi all, to make it short can Wood Elves be balanced for huge battles with 80 core unit sizes?
My concern is the Forrest Stalker special rule that was not made for huge scale battles.
I've done a lot of world building with 8th edition battles in Tabletop Simulator and balancing these Elves seems impossible given there Forrest Stalker special rule. My solution is to give each core unit a flat Forrest tile when deploying but I'm worried this will overpower them. From what I understand Forrest Stalker exists only to stop WE players from running away from the enemy untill turn 5.
This is taking away from my discussion but if anyone's interested I'm playing with 70% Core, 20% Special, 5% Hero/Rare, 14k points per side in war, 3 battles, randomly generated armylists and homerules for large scale battles.
Will have a lookout for replies,

hey there, interesting topic. I don't think you need to make huge accommodations. Just because the game is bigger, doesn't mean the units have to be that much bigger as they will get unwieldy to move around your terrain. at least you should have plenty of terrain, particularly impassible pieces. That really cuts down on the advantage of big units (goes for all game sizes actually). I would consider making a few bigger forest pieces (and increase the size of the 'free' forest) so that e.g. a 60 man Eternal Guard unit can fit half the models in and get their bonus. Basically think about what percentage of your regular 6x4 table is forest and ~keep that percentage as you go to a bigger table in a big game. But then not increase the number of forest pieces (much) but instead increase the size of each forest. Giving every core unit a forest does sound a bit crazy. Please share some pics of your games and your house rules. Randomly generated army lists sounds pretty wonky. I am intrigued.
edit: and in the interest of full disclosure, my first hand big game experience is limited to Empire and Chaos. Keen to hear about peculiarities of other armies

I feel that 70% core would effect armies such a tomb kings and Chaos Dwarfs negatively a great deal. The size of the battlefield would effect your wood elf question heaps at 14k points.

Personally I would stick with the pre end time rules so 25% Lord, hero, core, rare and 50% special and a max of three duplicates with the rare. Woodies are pretty balanced and I find no negative impact when I'm not able to benefit from the forest stalker rules as when my eternal guard are not in a forest. Forest stalker is there, both to encourage you to use the terrain and support you when playing skirmishers and when you want to go full on shooting. I think though making "house terrain" is a good shout its something I do and nothing makes a battle better than an evocative piece of terrain.
