This was one of the games that I played at the Keystone GT last weekend. My dwarf army list is posted here: eefl.freeforums.net/thread/9/500-point-dwarf-army-keystone. The dark elf list was Dread Lord on Dark Steed, Level 2 Beast on Dark Steed, Hag on Cauldron of Blood, Master BSB, 34 Dreadspears, 5 Dark Riders, 9 Dark Riders, 21 Black Guard, 2 Repeating Bolt Throwers, 6 Cold One Knights, 5 Harpies and 6 Warlocks. There was a mission worth bonus battle points for this game where you marked 3 enemy units each from a different category (ie lord, hero, core, special and rare). If you completely killed a marked unit you got a bonus battle point. I marked the Master BSB, 5 Dark Riders and Harpies. This is set up just before dark elf vanguards. For ancestral grudge I rolled that my entire army hates his entire army. Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedAttachment Deleted

Final picture of deployment. Attachment DeletedDark elves vanguard and end up getting the first turn. He vanguards and moves the warlocks into my face but holds back with everything else. Attachment DeletedIn the magic phase we end up 10 power dice to 6 dispel dice. He miscasts a soulblight onto one of the gyros and ends up losing two warlocks. The other spell he tries to cast I stop with dispel dice. Dark elf shooting was insignificant. Dwarf turn 1 both gyrocopters are able to fly over the warlocks and drop bombs. This ends up finishing off the warlock unit which is huge. Attachment Deleted

My ballistic skill shooting is all out of range so my left flank advances. Attachment DeletedRight flank combat units also march forward. Attachment DeletedMy shooting does not do anything of significance. Dark elf turn 2 he does a bit of maneuvering but my ballistic skill shooting is really scaring him. He generally holds back wanting to stay out of range where possible. Attachment Deleted

Other dark elf flank after turn 2 movement. Attachment DeletedMagic is 3 power dice to 2 dispel dice. I believe I need to use a scroll here but no magic gets through. Dwarf turn 2 some of my BS shooting is now in range (crossbows). The rest continues to advance. Attachment DeletedThe dwarf right flank also continues to march forward. Attachment Deleted

My shooting phase is able to kill a few black guard. Dark elf turn 3 movement is still pretty minor. With my shooting now mostly in range I figured he would have advanced to try and kill the small unit of slayers and 10 man units of shooting guys but he did not. Attachment DeletedAttachment Deleted Magic ends up 9 PD to 5 DD. He gets a bound spell off from the cauldron of blood that gives units within 12" frenzy. Dwarf turn 3 slayers advance but BS shooting is in range so does not move (except Iron Drakes). Attachment Deleted

Both gyros land behind the building. Right flank continues to advance. Warriors are into a lake so can't march. The hammerers are trying to keep the dark riders behind the hill from being able to shoot past out of line of sight where they could then get into my back field and get my warmachines. Attachment DeletedMy shooting all targets black guard and am able to take out a few more. Dark elf 4 is again just minor moves. He puts the blackguard into a single long file. I think this is mainly to ward against steam template from the gyrocopters but will also limit any damage from stone thrower/cannon. Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedMagic is 8 PD to 6 DD. I believe I use the second rune of spellbreaking but still shut down the phase.

Dwarf turn 4 advance continues much the same. Slayers, irondrakes, warriors and hammerers move up but the rest is in range by now. The hammerers move far enough that I know the dark riders can break past me but he only has 2 more turns so I don't think he can make it to the way back. I figure I will at least go for the bolt thrower. I decide to take a risk with one of the gyros to try and do some real damage to the blackguard and land next to them even though some of his stuff (including bolt throwers) can see the gyro. Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedShooting is able to bring the black guard unit down to 8 guys. His turn 5 he does not charge the gyro. The blackguard reform and move behind the woods to get some additional cover and maximize charge distances. Attachment Deleted

The dark riders make a go for it. Attachment DeletedMagic phase was 7 PD to 5 DD. Magic doesn't do much. His bolt throwers are able to take out the gyro. In dwarf turn 5 the slayers try for a long charge on the blackguard but fail. Attachment DeletedHammerers move on top of the hill (they are where that piece of paper is). Attachment DeletedDwarf shooting brings blackguard down to 3 guys.

Turn 6 he moves his blackguard and the bolt thrower near the hammerers toward his table (away from me). His 9 man dark rider unit moves into shooting range of my bolt thrower. Magic doesn't do much. He shoots into my bolt thrower with the darkriders but doesn't do the three wounds.
My turn 6 I try a long charge from hammerers to bolt thrower (10 on dice) and a slightly shorter charge from slayers to spearmen (8 or 9 on dice). I make the charge with the hammerers but fail the slayer charge. My shootings is able to finish the black guard. Hammerers get the bolt thrower (no surprise there).
I win scoring points for the blackguard, bolt thrower and warlocks. He scored a gyro. I think the scenario with the targets made him decide not to move his chaff units out to try to kill my warmachines/missile units (since I marked them). So because of this together with my entire army having hatred he didn't want to get shot to death or smashed in close combat so just decided to hold back for the game and take a minor loss.
I'm not very experienced in writing battle reports so please let me know any ideas you have to improve format, method, info, etc. I wish I had taken better notes about magic as I really don't remember much of anything from magic besides there were no game changing spells.

Congrats on the victory! A well deserved, patient win. That must've been frustrating with him pulling back and waiting to just run around you like that. Still, shows that no aggression = no victory.
The batreps are fine. Very clear, concise and with pictures! Very good. Thanks!

Yes, it was a bit of a boring game but I do get why he held back. With my army ending up with hatred I was better at both shooting and close combat than him so if he got to aggressive there was a good chance it would have been 20 dwarves and 0 dark elves.
He also didn't end up with any of the horde killer spells. Just support spells so nothing in the magic phase was going to be game changing either.
