Throgg is obviously out of production and the prices for him are ridiculous for the most part. Any recommendations for an alternative Throgg or a model that would make a pretty good base for a conversion?

I was wanting to ask this exact question the other day! Intending to add Kholek to my Dragon Ogre contingent soon and liking the idea of running them as an army in their own right. Only way to do that in the rules without using warriors is taking Throgg to fill core with Trolls. And my Drogres are painted in the 6th Ed chaos troll colour scheme anyway - add some dogs and a chimera and that’s a monsters of chaos army…. (yet another one)
Good shout on made to order Sedge.
Edit: just actually had a proper look at the AoS trolls Sedge linked. The dankholds aren’t my cup of tea. The stone troll with the great weapon has some potential but would probably have to go diagonally on a 40mm and also has mantic style ridiculously short troll legs syndrome. And don’t like the strapped on rocks.

Depending on how patient you are, I'd recommend waiting, because GW will probably bring Throgg back with The Old World, or in a Made to Order round. It may take a few years, but it's a quality model that's worth waiting for. This! I'd absolutely look at getting something *very* cheap to paint up and use, and wait the above. The original model is so good it's worth the wait |

Thanks everyone for the recommendations!!! Once again EEFL coming through with the knowledge! I've decided to wait around a while for the hopeful authentic Throgg re-order. I have (I'm sure like many here) a good backlog to get through (and a great project for 2023 in the works!)

Hehe, yes, of course, that is one big impressive axe.
But of course, if this causes any problems, you can turn the model around so that the axe is in the front of the unit. It also helps that that part of the miniature is very flexible, the axe can be bent to the side to some extent.

I don't know for sure, but to me it seems similar to the Reaper Bones miniatures ("polymer plastic material"). |

Never seen that model before KevinC but liking the sculpt, especially that it’s cyclopean. Like your paint job too!
Quick check on eBay and people are asking similar prices to the official Throgg model for it. No good
Quick check on Cadwallon and it’s on there for 26 odd euros. Can live with that. Definitely an option.
Never ordered from Cadwallon but assume they are French like Rackham as they’ve got their models?
