What's the base size? I think it's the awful enormous base, but my model didn't come with one.

100x150mm, it is indeed the "awful enormous base".

Thanks
How much of a problem is it if I decided to use a smaller base?

I wouldn't see a problem with it, I should make a new base for mine as well the old metal guy

I think it depends on how much of a rules stickler your opponent is. A smaller base lowers the chance of artillery hitting it in counter fire and limits the number of models that can get stuck in against it. Both highly pertinent for this very tough unbreakable warmachine-monster. I ended up cutting my own base and just putting my unbased model on it for games. Covers the issue for gameplay but I don't have to deal with finding space in the case for a base that big.

Definitely don't want to cheat anyone
I'm thinking of putting a conversation together for the mega battle. Anyone have an issue with 100x100 as the base?

you technically don't need bases on war machines

..and the hell cannon is not a war machine.
I would advice against a smaller base because it really makes a difference when units are in close combat with the thing. But, maybe that just shows how much of a stickler I am. And, in the interest of full disclosure, I don't get to throw down with you guys at this soon-to-be-legend megabattle so no harm in ignoring me.

No, you make good points.
The aesthetics of a model are much more important than rules for me, but i don't want to screw up rules for the game.
I'll try the big base. But man, I hate that size.

you technically don't need bases on war machines Technically you can use whatever base is actually supplied with the model. No base came with mine. No idea what that means.

I like the suggestion of doing wat you want and then just put it on a big base if your opponent wants it. Or you can go full out and make a smaller one that fits in the hole of a bigger one. I have no idea how much time you have :-)

Have you considered doing something like a diorama on the larger/correct base? Some rocks, pile of skulls, etc.

I would come down on the side of not shrinking the base. Because as Naitsabes says, it's not a warmachine, it's a monster, and Hellcannons end up in combat much more than you would expect. But, I am something of a stickler myself.

Rough times is correct, if the model didn't come with a base then it base is assumed to be model it self, the direct point of target, all parts. How it was in old days, grandfathered.
