"We are the chosen of Asuryan, beloved of the gods and heirs to the world. Our armies are the finest in creation; swift where our foes are lumbering, cultured where they are barbaric. Give no thought to failure, nor defeat – we are the Children of Ulthuan and we shall prevail." -Aenarion the Defender, Phoenix King of Ulthuan As the fortunes of the world grew evermore dim, and Ulthuan came increasingly under assault, Prince Imrik of Caledor became concerned that the deeds of his kinsfolk no longer compared favorably to those of their ancestors, that the blood of Caledor had thinned as the centuries had passed. Called upon by Phoenix King Finubar the Seafarer, Imrik commanded that the fires of war burn once more, and the great Dragons of old be awoken. The Badlands would be claimed for Ulthuan, and all would know that Caledor had lead the way, as it had in ages past - even if it took the sacrifice of every one of its sons and daughters to do so. Dramatic context aside, hello all! The purpose of this blog is to track my hobby progress as we approach the ever-beloved Adepticon in March of 2023, and with it- The Battle For the Badlands II (Electric Boogaloo.)My army will be a themed force representing a smattering of loyal nobles from Caledor, Eataine, and Ellyrion joining Imrik on his crusade to claim the Badlands for Ulthuan, and the glory for themselves. To start things off, I will post my first models painted exclusively for this project: Prince Imrik Dragontamer, the Crown Prince of Caledor, with Minaithnir, the King of Dragons: Finithel Sureheart, a Noble of Eataine, tasked with the "privelege" of carrying the Battle Standard of Caledor: (Also my first time with freehand!) Last but not least, Nashandra Belanar, an ethereal Mage of Ellyrion:

This sounds promising, and the painting on those characters is excellent.
Why the odd basing for the dragon?

This sounds promising, and the painting on those characters is excellent. Why the odd basing for the dragon? Good question! The Imrik/6th Ed Dragon model comes with that weird square base up top- it's super thick, and slightly larger than 50x50mm. In previous editions, this was the proper size for dragons, and it has the pegs for the Dragon's big ol' feet. However, I'm using this model as a Prince on Star Dragon in 8th, which technically uses a 50x100mm base. For tournament legality and such, I made a secondary "game" base and magnetized it, so the Dragon comes right on and off depending on what he's being used for!

Fair enough! I guess there is no perfect solution for this, to me it just looks so weird. Great to see such an oldschool model being used though, so I defintiely appreciate the effort!

Superb idea, ideal for any edition like that 👌

Meh… they’re ok, I guess. J/K, I’m fortunate enough to be one of the players that gets to deploy opposite of McNuggs on the war table (thanks to this forum, mind you). They all look great and you are definitely beating me on the narrative component of the lists. I’ll work on my character and unit names some more and get to posting what I’ve got done for the superior version of elves, the Druchii! I won’t let some Asur scum show me up! On an unrelated note, does anyone know of a professional miniatures photographer in the Chicagoland area who will stage my ar-… I mean, my “friends” army so that it will look better than these pictures McNuggs posted?

They look great! Nice intro, with the beautiful art. And clever basing on the big lizard.

Greetings, honored guest. Since my last post, I have completed: Elladan Silverfang, a Caledorian of Noble Blood: In addition to this character, the first few Silver Helms (of many) are complete: These brave sons and daughters of Caledor form the elite core of Imrik's force, leading the charge and protecting the more "established" royalty. I plan on returning to all of my models to add details such as freehand, eyes, and basing details to get them on par with the rest of the army, but with 42 more horses to paint in 6 weeks, it's crunch time! In addition to these freshly painted fellas, I took a few new pictures of "older" paintjobs, starting with- My Frostheart Phoenix on an autumn themed base: One of my trusty eagles: (His twin wasn't allowed in the event!) And finally, a singular Bolt Thrower diorama: I really appreciate the feedback, and thank you for helping me stay motivated with such a large project!

But, on the off chance we do remember, I suppose this gives me a good timeline for when I need to post some pictures here. Don’t want to reveal the dark elves I’ve been painting up without having a showcase for them first! Time to get crackin on finishing some stuff up.

Lovely elves. I'm a natural Druchii myself, with Woodies as my second favourites, but there's something about a crisply painted High Elf in pristine white robes and gleaming armour that really stands out.
