I have an unpainted empire army. I want to do Nordland! Ship fairing men of the Empire. So my question is this... would this be a good base for them or look to glossy?

Are you going to paint it blue or something?

My apologies I wasn't too clear. The Empire soldiers will be blue and yellow. I want the bases to look like they are on a ship of some sort and want to know if these would look good or be too glossy

I would use bass wood strips.

Or resin bases. I don't think this will work.

I use this to stop the darts from damaging my floor, works great. For wood from a ship it might be a bit shiny.

If you want to use real wood you should use small pieces with lots of structure so you can drybrush them. If you cut up floor tiles like that I think it will just look flat and unpainted.

I'm all for doing things economically, but I'm afraid the guys are right in this case. It will look quick and fake. Try what Rick said. Basswood is probably the way to go. But do your research. There have been some great Nordland armies out there!

Thank you all for the help. I had a feeling it wouldn't work. Just didn't want these to go to waste!
