Trying to get my head around how a unit should look after a combat reform and hoping the good people of the forum can help.
If a unit is charged in the flank and then makes a combat reform at the end of the turn how should command group models be positioned?
The way I understand the rule the champion cannot move into the front rank if he removes another model from the fight, so would that mean he goes into the second rank?

Ya so if you reformed to face what was your flank, your whole command group automatically moves to the front (BRB of 92). The amount of models in base to base cannot change, that’s just impacting how your unit looks when it’s all done. If you had 7 models in base to base at the flank because let’s say you were 7 ranks deep and 5 wide, upon reform you’d be 5 deep and 7 wide. No less attacks either way AND the command group moves to the front rank because they have to.

Thanks.
Doesn't that contradict the rule 'it cannot be used to get a model (friend or foe) out of base contact with the enemy if it was in contact before the reform was made' as you have effectively removed a rank and file model from base contact?

Command group rules are effectively a "Special Rule" which provides an exception for what you are describing. The Command Group always goes in the front, with a very few exceptions. The "out of base contact" is basically there to prevent people from removing a vulnerable character from melee combat.

I think of it as a two step process: Step 1 :: Reform as desired but models in combat cannot be disengaged. Step 2 :: Command group moves to front rank and displaces models as required.
Not sure if that is technically how the rules are written. But I think it accurately captures the designer's intentions.

I don't know the details of Master Moulders, but don't they go in the back not the front?

RAW, you cannot execute a combat reform in this situation, since, without stated exemption or precedence, that is the only way to adhere to all the rules. As always, if you and your opponent agree, feel free to play it differently. For what they are worth [sometimes not much], here are the relevant FAQ from Swedish Comp and ETC:
