Game started as a 500 point 1v1 but ended up growing into a 1000 point (each) 2v2.
Allies ended up being Skaven and Vampire Counts vs Dark Elves (me) and Bretonnia.
Had a fun time, forgot a couple rules. My brother borrowed my Skaven as he loves them (but doesn't play) so it was fun to finally face off against them instead of playing with them for once.
Game ended in a win for the Dark Elves and Bretonnia, thanks in large part to the Bretonnian knights refusing to fail any of their Ward Saves.
My friend who plays Vampires took a weird list that included 7 Spirit Hosts and 2 Wraiths. Ethereal ended being quite the roadblock, but they never really killed anything.
beginning of game - Dark Elves with Pegasus Knights line up opposite the Skaven with a Varghulf in support
beginning of game - Bretonnians line up opposite the Vampire Counts
big unit of Dire Wolves move right up the center - they died to 10 Darkshards first turn volley and then the subsequent stand-and-shoot when the remnants charged the following turn
Skaven Battleline moves up - lots and lots of slaves with some Rat Darts and Varghulf all supporting/running interference on the Warp Lightning Cannon
Battlelines move about and jostle for position - this must be around turn 2 as the dogs that were in the middle are dead and the Pegasus Knights have begun their flanking maneuver to get at the cannon
Meanwhile the Bretonnians and Vampires are also jostling
Warpfire Thrower lines up a shot against the knights coming up and over the hill. Then promptly rolled a whoomph and blew up, only killing itself though!
It took them three rounds of combat, but the rats eventually killed that bolt thrower for one loss in return
Pegasus Knights contact the Varghulf, kill it then overrun into the cannon. They are subsequently flank charged by a unit of slaves. Combat would see the cannon dead, and the Knights broken and running (they never rallied and left the table one turn later)
meanwhile the spears contact the other unit of slaves. Amazingly enough, they outlasted the slaves, I thought for sure Skaven numbers would win the day
Knights of the Realm charge the Stormvermin - this is a combat I thought for sure the Skaven would win, but the knights got lucky and the Skaven broke even with all their LD buffs around. Knights elected to reform so the Stormvermin lived to fight another day
Slaves won this combat against the Witch Elves (janky charge that ended up with only this contact possible) but fortunately the Witch Elves held!
Darkshards finished off the remains of the Rat Dart (stand-and-shoot took care of the rest of them)
I have no more pictures of the rest of the game, but by now it was close to over. Of note is that the Witch Elves and the Warriors ended up grinding out that second unit of slaves, and when the Stormvermin with attached bsb and warlord failed their charge into the flank of the Witch Elves (needed a 5, rolled a 4) Skaven called it. By then Bretonnia had tabled the Vampires
All in all a great game! Looking forward to painting up some more Skaven (Screaming Bell being a high priority, as well as some weapon teams) and getting the Dark Elves up to 2k.
If you're still here, thanks for reading!
