Hi all, So I told my wife I wanted to get rid of the dining table & turn it into a permanent battleground, but she says that's not possible! I'm just querying the rules here - can anyone clarify? She also claims my plan to turn her dressing table into a painting studio is against the rules, but I can't see anything written- RAI vs RAW right?

This is definitely answered in "Gaming While Married" third edition. The only problem is tracking down a copy. They only show up on ebay on February 30th.

I should think your idea has some merit, and there should be room for compromise. After all, a dressing table is already a kind of painting studio, and, at least those with kids will agree that the dining table can easily serve as a permanent battlefield...

I was hoping you at least got some nice metal chaos dwarfs or dogs if war for her. Anyway as to your actual question it's not in the rulebook so I think a very reasonable roll off for the dining table would suffice in Jervis' eyes. I do believe she is correct with her dressing table so you'll lose that battle. It's already a (face) painting studio but it belongs to her so you'll have to get your own unfortunately.

Serious question, do people actually like gaming tables with a recessed playing area? I see them for sale online. So I guess people must like them. But it looks horribly annoying to me.

It seems an adaptation of the old bridge table, where the recessed area was just for storage, not playing. Personally, it is not so much the recessed playing area that would annoy me, but the elevated price.

I'm just baffled why every single custom gaming table online has the recessed playing area. To me, that design is a total deal breaker.

There's always compromise. I'd move the dressing table to the dining room and take the dining table for games, but also paint at it...

thegoat: Well, perhaps it is a matter of perspective. Just like with a bridge table, you could use the recessed area for storage, open it to take out what you need, close it again, and then play on the actual table surface.

What I like about it is, you can start to play on the recessed part, put the dining table lid back on for dinner... And pick up your game the following day, week month or year 😂

One of my 40k friends has one he built with the new 40k specs. I don't mind it, when rolling dice don't fall everywhere, it is nice and contained, and the lip is no bother. I do have one of the folding game tables which, I over paid for yes but it is very suited to my needs and space so while I payed a premium, I have gotten my money's worth easily and still getting fantastic use from it.
