Hello,
I have a small playgroup of 3 people playing 8th edition including myself. We don't really know anyone who can help us with the rules so I turn to you, wise men of the forums, because google has failed me.
1. Skirmishers / free reform:
"Skirmishing unit is allowed to reform as many times as it wishes during its move, even if it marches, provided that no model ends up moving a number of inches higher than double its Movement value." (brb p.77)
Is the maximum movement distance calculated from the center of a model or so that not any corner of the base has moved more than 2x movement distance (so if you turn 20 mm base 180 degrees around has it moved 20 mm or not).
2. Lone models and movement:
Does pivoting a lone model consume movement allowance and is the movement calculated from the center of the model or corners? Probably pivoting doesn't cause movement and the distance is calculated from the center. (No pivot in charge, but the one wheel in the charge is "free" movement like for normal units so I guess it all makes sense.)
3. Moving out of units:
Can a character move like a lone model when moving out of a unit. So for example if a unit is facing away from enemy (not fleeing), can a character turn 180 degrees and leave the unit so that it now facing the enemy. Does it matter if it's for an example Bretonnian damsel in a unit of 9 cavalry models (surrounded), because she might have no space to pivot there or something?
4. Challenges / multiple:
"Only one challenge can be issued per close combat" (brb p.102), "Further challenges cannot be issued in that combat until the existing challenge has been resolved." (brb p.103).
If a close combat has a challenge that ends. Is it possible to issue a new challenge in the same close combat in next turn? So for example can a unit of Grail Knights (Grail Knights are all champions and each can issue a challenge) hold a Demon Prince in a challenge loop provided they will not break.
5. Challenges / moving units:
When challenge is issued the dueling units are moved in base contact if possible. This is easy, but what happens to rest of the close combat if there are multiple units fighting. So for example if there is a Lord and unit of Bretonnian knights fighting a Demon Prince while a Chaos Chariot charges the Lord behind.
"Image" Below might explain better (Bretonnian Knights are one unit of 3 models wide, <- means facing)
[Bretonnian Knights->][<-Demon][<-Lord][<-Chariot]
[Bretonnian Knights->][<-Chaos Warriors]
So Demon and Lord are fighting a challenge, what happens to Chariot? It can't attack because it isn't in base contact to Knights. Rear charge and impact hits are counted towards the combat resolution I guess. What about the Warriors. Knights are in base contact with the demon so that only one Knight is in a base contact with a Warrior (Warriors also charged this turn). Do we have to move Knights to face more Warriors in this combat? (Warriors can't move to face more Knights, because the Demon is "blocking" their movement).
6. Does the small round template hit 5 cavalry bases in a rank of 5 (I think this should be an easy yes, but not sure if people play it this way):
If you put small round template on the center model of a rank of 5 cavalry it should hit all of them? Because small round template diameter is 3 inches = 76,2 mm (radius 38,1 mm), and the width of 1,5 cavalry bases is 1,5 x 25 mm = 37,5 mm. It means that the small round template hits 0,6 mm to the cavalry bases on the edges in a rank of 5. The 0,6 mm is so small that it might be hard to see but with the math it checks out.
7. Combined units breaking from combat and rallying:
I have a combined unit of 10 knights and 2 heroes in a close combat. At the end of the combat all 10 knights die and my "unit" of two heroes fails the break test and flees. Are the two heroes still "a unit that has less than 25 % left" and do they need to roll double 1 to rally? What if only one hero is left, does he still need double 1's to rally?
Kind regards,
Greed
