This is going on now. I have 1250 points of Vampire Counts vs. His lizard man. I have 2 units of 35 zombies, 2 units of 10 ghouls, 6 dire wolves, 3 cairn wraith, 3 spirit hosts and a varfghulf. He has 2 units of 30 Saurus, a unit of 15 skink skirmishes, a Slaan and Tettoeko. Vlad had heard of a small band of lizardmen making their way to save the Everchild. Such a nuisance was bet met by an underling, so he sent his distant cousin, Draven, to hunt them down. Best case scenario, there would be new leather for his wardrobe. At worse, one less threat to his position.

We rolled a Meeting Engagement. Draven looked at the small warband and immediately deployed to flank them. The wolves would move to flank while his horde of zombies held the middle against the Saurus. Spirit hosts and the varfghulf would hold up the other Saurus on the right flank. The lizards moved forward and let loose their magics (11 casting dice). The Comet of Casandora was called down to block the advance on the right. Fiery convocation blasted into the zombies from the Slaan through Tetto'eko. Draven was incensed. He moved forward. Dalekai the Feeble raised some of the Fallen zombies, but Draven was not thrilled to have been injured by the necromancer's careless incantation (Magical Feedback)

The Lizardmen, emboldened by their good fortune, advanced. A tempest whipped up by the Slaan pulped 6 zombies. Draven was unconcerned, they would be back. Fiery convocation again leveled most of a unit. This time it was Dalekai's unit that bore the brunt. The skinks, spying some ghouls nearby, shot and felled three of them. The ghouls, smelling blood, charged into the skinks, losing three more of their number. It was a bad decision. The Varghulf and Hosts charged the Warriors. The battle was lackluster. The Saurus held and the Varghulf snarled in anger.

The Slaan ordered the Saurus near him to charge Dalekai's unit. Tetto'eko threw lightning at the cairn wraith, two dissipating into ether. Combat ensued, with the Varghulf consuming three more Saurus. The other Saurus slammed into Dalekai's zombies. It was looking grim, but Draven cared not, still angered for his now healed injury. Draven countercharged with the die wolves support , hoping to sway the battle. He was wrong.

The melee slogged on. The Lizardmen carving up zombies left and right. It looked like Vlad would lose a pretender to the throne.

The battle was turning against the lizards. The Saurus fighting the Varghulf recognized a lost cause and broke for the cover of the wilderness behind them. The skinks found themselves facing more spirits from the battlefield. and the Saurus near the Slaan tired from the killing of so many undead, their own number joining those of their fetid foes. The magic of the old was fading, but there was still time, the old Slaan thought, for one more push.

The Slaan summoned down lightning once more. Dalekai was no more. It was enough to recharge the Saurus Warriors, and they fought with renewed ferocity, leaving Draven standing alone. The spirit host made contact with the skinks, and they were brought into the other realm. The Saurus failed to fell the Draven and the Lizardmen chose to leave the field. Draven desired to continue the hunt, for anything less than a victory was failure. Alas, it would take time to raise more warriors.

In the end Aidan had 550 vp to my 700. A draw that could have gone either way.

Great stuff! Good detail, images and it was nice to see it happening!
Massive magic from the Lizardmen - not unexpected - but you survived!
